@blackbird: I know what you mean. I think I'm just worried because she dropped her milk intake so drastically and has been acting really cranky lately (which I assumed meant hungry). She drinks more water but hasn't really upped her food intake. We are going to try some yogurts this weekend though.

She doesn't really need the milk, does she? I would look into some MSPI friendly yogurts to add to her diet, but if she's hungry/thirsty...she'll eat/drink more. If not, well..it's not like she's a little bitty baby needing formula. E definitely cut down on her milk intake when we switched off the bottle but it ramped back up with time!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: Yes, I definitely think the bottle is a lovey of sorts for my LO too. I didn't realize there were softer sippies. We'll give those a try!

@MUI831: I'm pretty sure she's being stubborn too! I didn't think about adding syrup but I know we used to give her a sweeter brand of hemp milk (when I first switched her from pumped breastmilk to hemp) so maybe we'll try that again.

Honestly, the only thing that helped us was time. Since I knew that he would take water from his straw cups, I knew he was being stubborn. We were able to supplement with cheese and yogurt so we didn't have the same concern as you. I did resort to adding a little chocolate syrup and that helped but not sure if this is an option for you either. I found some great organic syrup at Whole Foods and at Trader Joes.

@catlady: Chloe was like this! Bottles were her lovey. She never latched on to a stuffed animal like most kids do. She would snuggle with her "baba", and slept with it in her crib. It took us ages to get her to switch to a sippy cup and even at 3, she sleeps with one -- as in, *in* her bed, tucked under her arms like a stuffed animal. It's crazy.

I spent a small fortune at target trying every cup under the sun before I stumbled upon one brand with a soft spout that mimicked a bottle nipple. Once those worked I bought 6 of them, and when she got closer to 2-2.5, we switched to the hard spout cups.

ETA:

This is what got her off the bottle:

LO is 14 months and I've been trying to switch her from bottle to cup for a couple months now without success. She can drink water easily from a straw or sippy cup, but she only wants a bottle for her hemp milk. At first, we tried just offering the cup first, but she caught on quickly that if she refused it long enough, we'd give her a bottle. Over the past week and a half or so, we've hidden all the bottles and are only giving her cups, and basically she's just not drinking much milk at all anymore. I know if I gave her bottles, she'd drink at least 10 oz of milk, but from her cups, she's only averaging about 3 oz per day. I'm nursing am/pm, but I want to wean soon and I'm worried about her nutrition. Unfortunately, we can't supplement with cheese or yogurt because she's still MSPI.

Any tips to help make this easier? We have mainly been trying with take and toss sippy cups because our daycare uses those too, so we thought it would make it easier if she saw other kids drinking from them. But we are open to trying other cups.
