I am going to experiment by trying to do my HIIT spin session tonight, instead of tomorrow morning and see how it affects my ability to fall asleep.

I force myself into the basement (gym area) as soon as I put L in his crib. That way there is no excuse. I don't allow myself to get distracted between his bedroom and the basement door.

However.... I'm needing a reboot after moving.

@babybean404: Exercise after dinner for the best results!!! Also eat dinner that isn't too heavy because then you'll be too full to work out. I would suggest your biggest meals being breakfast & lunch and keeping dinner a lighter meal like protein with veggies or salad. Give yourself an hour after you've eaten to exercise. If you do eat after your evening exercise, keep it light like a chicken salad

Now sometimes you can get a Boost if energy after exercise to really maximize your intensity so your working hard and then you should sleep quite well after your workout. Try not to eat after your evening workout. Water is key!

I always eat a little something beforehand and then if I am still hungry after my workout, I will have a protein bar, protein shake or some type of ground chicken/turkey/beef.

I have been working out pretty seriously the past 2 months and have fallen into a great routine! I have had to sacrifice some sleep here and there but I have found that working out and staying healthy has made me less tired anyways.

I always go to the gym after the kids are in bed and I am lucky that both boys sleep through the night.

I mix it up! If one way starts not working, I try something else. Sometimes I eat dinner first, sometimes I eat dinner after, sometimes I workout early, sometimes I workout late. After her bedtime is the hardest for me, so I usually try to do something earlier, either a family walk, a workout video, or a workout class.

I change into workout clothes as soon as I get home and I workout while dinner is in oven or I do it while DH gives the girls baths/LO2 takes her evening snooze. I just force myself, I can't watch TV before or I will never stop watching.

I eat something small for dinner usually. It also helps if I change into my workout clothes immediately when I get home from work.

I went at 8:00 the other night; i eat a light dinner at 5pm or so, work out, then have a protein shake and a snack. I was wired until about 11pm, though! I did sleep great, by the time I actually fell asleep.

I agree with @ms.line: definitely dinner after! Otherwise, it just gives me more time to get lazy and decide, "Eh, I don't feel like exercising tonight." I usually exercise after work, so around 5:30 or 6. I'll have a light snack at work around 3:30 or 4:00 so I won't be starving when I exercise and then I eat dinner after.

ETA: I also agree that shorter workouts make it more likely that I will actually exercise. Rarely do I work out for more than 30-40 min.

When I actually work out (need to get back on it), I do it at night. Usually it's after dinner and after LO goes to bed, so around 8pm. I keep it short (15-30 minutes) and aim for more short sessions over the week as opposed to fewer long ones. I can't handle a long workout at the end of the day, it is just too tiring.

I always have to eat dinner after. If I eat first, then I have to "wait" to digest, then I procrastinate even more, then it's bedtime! It's hard!

I've finally realized that the only time I can guarantee a workout is after LO goes to bed. I am super lucky in that we have a home gym with a treadmill, but I am usually so tired by 7:30 that it's easy to talk myself out of it.

What are your tips for making sure you get a workout in before bed? Do you eat dinner before or after?
