I would take the progesterone. My levels we're at like 18 and the OB still put me on them due to prior miscarriages. If anything they put my mind at ease

With my second m/c, I was on progesterone and I don't think it delayed things at all. And I agree with the idea that it'd be harder to deal with not having done everything you can than being delayed a little. Fingers crossed and lots of sticky dust!

@swedishfish: it wouldn't hurt to try calling the RE. You could always say that the OB drew your numbers and that they aren't being as proactive as you would like.

I would definitely get the suppositories. My OB said the same thing as @CupQuakeWalk: that it wouldn't prevent me from miscarrying a nonviable pregnancy, but that it's better to be safe than sorry.

I hope that your numbers go up and that you and the babe are well taken care of!

@mrs. 64: I am definitely regretting calling the OB first. I don't think my RE would see me now that I've had an appointment with the OB's office.

I agree with going ahead with the progesterone. I also think it is worth it to touch base with your RE. I had just started working with an RE when I got my bfp naturally. I contacted them first and they kept me until I transferred to the OB at 8 weeks, which I was incredibly thankful for since I had never officially started treatment with them. I just think REs are more sensitive to this type of thing.

I'm glad you decided to get the prescription. My doc said there was no proof that it could help, but it wouldn't hurt and my levels were as low as yours.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: With the m/c I had in the spring, whatever was supposed to happen happened; the progesterone just delayed the bleeding. That's a small risk to take.

@spaniellove: the NP said the same thing to me when she offered to write a prescription tomorrow.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: @Pepper: @CupQuakeWalk: I'm going to ask for the supplements tomorrow. I'd regret it if something happened and I didn't try.

My OB told me that I'd miscarriage regardless of progesterone BUT that there was no such thing as "too much progesterone" and it was better to be safe than sorry. I'd insist in supplements. Especially because I got pregnant after E, but didn't know it an miscarried (hello, because I didn't have prog).

I used progesterone suppositories with LO, though I started them before I was pregnant, and had to continue through my 1st trimester (I had a luteal phase defect). I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure progesterone levels can be low, even if the pregnancy is totally normal and viable. If I was in this position, I would ask for the prescription. I've heard of them delaying a miscarriage, but on the other hand, I know a lot of people who have perfectly healthy babies and just needed the extra progesterone.

@swedishfish: my RE tolde that if something was wrong with the baby, I'd miscarry regardless of being on progesterone. She even had me stop taking it at 9 weeks when my script ran out.

My OB said the same thing.

I have no idea what my progesterone levels were in this pregnancy. My levels weren't checked.

While it's true that progesterone can do that, I've read that it applies more after 6-8 weeks. Would you feel worse if you prolonged a pregnancy with progesterone or if you lost a pregnancy because you weren't proactive about getting progesterone that you needed? And while the nurse could be right about how far along you are, HCG levels are a bad way to estimate that because everyone and every pregnancy is different. But regardless of how many dpo you are, your progesterone levels are low...

@swedishfish: My RE has made it pretty clear that no matter if we are doing treatment or not and we get pregnant that we should call them as opposed to the OB because there are "known issues"

ETA: It can't hurt to at least check in with the RE regardless

@swedishfish: Did you have a chance to call the RE you saw for your first pregnancy? I haven't been pregnant before but you should trust your instincts. The progesterone number does seem low and if it was me I would insist on progesterone supplements

Well I thought I got a BFP at 11 DPO for this pregnancy, but by my measurements I've been spot on for 8 DPO being the day I got my BFP. I'd maybe give on each side, and say maybe it's somewhere between what you think and they think.

I had an appointment with the NP at my OBGYN's office today. These are my numbers so far (I had more blood work done today):

Last Monday: hCG = 41 and progesterone = 6.2

Wednesday: hCG = 122 and progesterone = 8.3 (different lab than the other two days so results may be off)

Friday: hCG = 381 and progesterone = 7.1

The NP told me that the doctors in my practice generally do not believe in prescribing progesterone supplements. If a pregnancy doesn't stick it means that there was something wrong.

She said also she's seen pregnancies stick with levels as low as mine and that progesterone levels fluctuate...but she is also adamant that I'm not as far along as I think I am (I think I'm 5 weeks). She said that the progesterone levels correspond with my hCG levels for very early pregnancy...so basically I would've gotten a positive pregnancy test at 6 DPO if I'm going with what they think.

I had more blood work done today and I'll find out the results tomorrow. She did offer to call in a prescription for progesterone supplements tomorrow if I'm not happy with the number.

What would you do? I can see both sides - I want this pregnancy to stick but I don't want to prolong a pregnancy that wouldn't stick naturally if there's something wrong.
