I think a plain navy would tie it all together, but I do love the owls too!

Have you looked at quilt backing? I just made crib sheets today, but my mattress is thinner, so I eeked by with standard 44" fabric. Quilt backing is 108" wide -- I didn't see any great chevrons when I looked quickly, but there are some other fun options:

http://www.fabric.com/CategoryDetail.aspx?CategoryID=c5e83fee-5b63-4518-98ce-31ebff5743bf&page=1

I like the yellow dots with your other fabrics:

I agree with zippylef too...the two chevrons make me a little dizzy!

BUT - if you love it, go for it!

@zippylef: that's not possible because the way they cut the chevron, it doesn't extend the whole length of the mattress. So it could only be used as a side.
But the plain navy with the owls could work... I added that as an option.

@stargal: I do actually really like the two chevrons next to each other as well.

I'm with @zippylef: too much chevron would look busy, but I lurrrrve the owls

What about the plain navy with the owls on the side? Or the chevron on top with the plain navy on the side? I think the two chevrons next to each other is going to be REALLY busy.

I need to make DS a custom crib sheet because his mattress and pad are 3" thicker than standard mattresses and standard crib sheets don't fit his bed. Boo.

On top of that, most fabrics are only 44" widths, but since his bed is wider/higher/whatever, I would need a 70" width.

Which means I can't make a crib sheet out of ONE piece of fabric, it will have to be pieced together. I will be flying by the seat of my pants because there are no tutorials out there for a crib sheet that has multiple pieces of fabric.

What i will be doing is have the entire top of the sheet, where he will lay, be one piece of the same fabric. Around the sides of the mattress will be a different piece.

My dilemma is choosing two coordinating fabrics.

Right now his room has a crib skirt that is green chevron and multi colored owls. The rest of his room is navy, green, yellow, white and grey.

These are the options: the plain navy cloth with the chevron on the sides

OR the multi-colored owls with the navy chevron on the sides.

Which looks better? DH likes both patterns together, but I'm wondering if it's too busy.

Oh, and the second pic is of his crib skirt.

ETA: I took pictures of each of the fabrics with the crib skirts to get a good visual
