LO dozed off a lot as a newborn during feedings also. Try skin to skin, massaging the neck (always seemed to wake him up), washcloth to face...good luck!

I want to hear i the R&P worked, that's what I was going to suggest too.

They also make pillow wedges you can put in the crib and you could try that.

good luck honey!!

My LO was diagnosed with reflux at 8 days old. He spent the first 4 months sleeping in his swing or carseat. Ultimately, he had an intolerance to milk and soy.

Another suggestion for the rock n play! Good luck. Also, as far as sleeping while nursing, I have heard that you can try skin to skin to keep the baby awake and then run a wet cloth on his back to keep him awake.

I used this for awhile. It's like a Boppy but without the hole so there's nothing to fall into.

@TurtleDoves: you can put the head supports that snap into the carseat in the swing, too... as long as it has a 5 point harness :)

Try the RnP at night, I didn't want one at first but DS loved it and slept in it for 4 months, hehe... when he got bigger we used it as a seat and fed him in it.
The boppy is risky if they sink down and roll into it, suffocation hazard - but as long as you're awake, perfectly fine for supervised naps

@TurtleDoves: I agree with the RnP if you have one! It has a nice incline.

We let LO nap in a boppy when she was that little (attended), she loved it. It was a nice way to have her nap on the couch with us or where ever we were so we didn't have to hold her. I guess the idea for overnight sleep would be you're not awake to monitor them while they're in it. They could some how move and slip out or turn sideways into the pillow?

@TurtleDoves: they can use it supervised in the daytime, but they could get their faces pressed up against the boppy and suffocate if using it unsupervised. it's why they recommend nothing in the crib before the age of 1.

@TurtleDoves: to me, the boppy could be a possible suffocation hazard or he could slip out and potentially hurt himself--that's just my opinion though. I think it's fine while you both are awake to have him in it if you are close to him.

@Mrs. Bee: My pediatrician just shrugged when I mentioned the sleep gagging and said "Very unlikely to cause a problem"....so I think maybe it is a myth? I have the R&P...I think i'll try that tonight.

As far as the Boppy not being safe...why is that? Are we not supposed to ever sit them in it? Sometimes we do while he awake and play with his little feet.

i've heard that it is a myth babies can choke on their own vomit. that is why people used to put babies to sleep on their tummies.

the boppy is not safe for sleep. i don't have any experience with reflux, but there are some products like the nap nanny that i think other parents have used so babies can sleep on an incline.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004J35D0Q

or even the rock and play allows your baby to sleep on an incline:

http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Newborn-Rock-Sleeper-Yellow/dp/B002M77N22/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1350958094&sr=1-1&keywords=rock+n+play

i think those are much safer options?

i know it must be tough as a new mama dealing with all this. hopefully other moms with babies that had reflux can chime in!

My son (1 week old) has had problems eating enough ever since he was born. He dozes off mid-feeding and sleeps through feedings too. To combat this: we've found ways to wake him up every 2-3h and we're trying all kinds of ways to keep him awake during feedings (bottles are OK, but breast puts him right to sleep).
What makes things 10X worse is that he has acid reflux (according to ped). He spits up much of what he ate.
The issue that scares me pants off is his spitting up at night while he's asleep. I have caught it a couple of times where he'll be asleep and he will start making a gaggy face and then throw up his milk and stay asleep. I quickly wake him up. But, I am so scared he will gag in his sleep.
I started letting him sleep propper up in his boppy last night. What do you think of this? Do you have any other suggestions?

side info:
all he drinks is breastmilk (sometimes through bottle)
he takes acid reflux medicine
we burp him religiously, he uses anti-colic bottles, and we feed him at an incline so he's never eating on his back.
