I would have a conversation with the teacher/director to understand how strict they are on the policy and what they suggest for coming into compliance. Your kiddo isn't the first to go down this path. Our daycare has a three day policy which turned into 1/2 day in reality. Our teacher addressed it with us as "your kiddo is READY and I know you are busy, just try underwear on the weekend and let us work on it with her." It was the most awesome scenario I ever could have hoped for. They kept her in nap diapers for a couple of months before I requested they stop (again after a conversation verifying that she was staying dry most of the time during nap).

Also, our daycare takes "trainers" to the bathroom every hour. That might be a place to start at home to get her more in the habit of actually using the toilet.

We used Flip cloth trainers at daycare. They worked well for pee but they were kind of a headache for poops.

@lizzywiz: pull ups! Because we pull it up like an underwear! Once she was trained she doesn't pee in her pull up despite us putting one on her in the car and at nap time. If she can hold it in the car she holds it until we get to a bathroom. If she can't hold it long enough having just a underwear on wouldn't help either.

Because of your daycare rules I would use pullups and I would stress how they are big girl panties and how cool they are, ect.

We have started occasionally using them on weekend (23 months and she's interested but not there yet) and she never pees in them because they have Dora on them...whatever works at home (this does not work at daycare though, so strange!)

Hmmm. We did the 3 day method over a weekend with DS, and I sent him to school that Monday in underwear. He had one pee accident the whole day. The next day he had one poop accident and after that, he had it down (other than the occasional, sometimes accident).

Personally, I don't really see the point of pull ups, I feel like that says it's ok to have an accident. However, since your daycare's rules don't allow undies, I would maybe try the pull up route and see how she does. But stress to her that they are like big girl undies and she's not supposed to pee in them.

great feedback, ladies!
@78h2o: @looch: I think they are pretty attached to their diapers only until 5 days dry rule but it is worth asking them. And the one step ahead panties look like something I might want to use, thanks!
@regberadaisy: did you find pull ups much easier to use than regular diapers- 'cause I have a backload of regular diapers, lol. But I want to use what is easiest, no matter the cost. Potty training is my least favorite part of parenting so far and anything that takes the edge off is worth, imo.

Ugh. That's annoying. My daughter definitely would not be potty trained yet if this was the rule at her daycare. If we put her in a diaper, she still has no problem peeing in it. She thinks it's funny. But in undies, she will try her best not to have an accident. Potty training for us has been quite a process to get to 100% -- DD was batting 75% after the first weekend, and has been hovering around 80-85% for quite a while. After 2 months, we still haven't ever had 5 days in a row when she stayed 100% dry.

Both of my kids were trained in diapers - once trained THEN we went to underwear as a "reward"

When we started potty training my daughter we sent her in pull ups. Even though she was getting good at telling us we figured they wouldn't want her having accidents all over the place. They actually kept her in just underwear because of how well she was doing..

For my daughter I actually don't think the pull ups impeded her progress at all.

Check out the underwear they have on one step ahead, they have a layer of PUL in between two cotton layers.

I would not use pull ups, those delay training, IMO.

Will they let you send her in undies with rubber pants over them (like these: http://www.amazon.com/Dappi-Waterproof-Vinyl-Diaper-Pants/dp/B0035JL93A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410201705&sr=8-1&keywords=rubber+pants)? Or maybe with pull ups over top? I would hope they would agree especially if you gave them a lot of extra pairs and a wet bag to put the dirty ones in. I feel like having her still be in underwear, even with a cover of some kind, would help prevent her taking a step back?

I'm going to have to find out what my daughter's daycare requires... we will start potty training in a few months.

it has stymied me regarding potty training.
I don't disagree with the rule- they can't have kids having accidents all over the place. And they are willing to put her on the potty all the time and whatnot.
But, I guess, in the back of my mind, I always thought wearing panties and training pants would be motivating to her but that isn't an option, at least not at first.
Also, given the situation, think I should go with pull ups?
I don't know...thoughts?

PS- she is 28 months, using a potty seat on big toilet (for fun only, no results), tells me when she needs a change, etc.
