Oops, totally thought I responded. Thanks all of you for the help. I think we are going to use a backup method + mini pill....and make sure I set an alarm to take it! I'm paranoid, but a new baby right now is NOT in the cards!!

I'm on the mini pill. I have been on it for years and never had problems. You do have to take it closer to the same time every day or it loses its efficacy. I take the packs back to back so I don't have a period.

It did take me a couple months to get used to taking a pill again. I set it by my toothbrush now.

We have two friends who had unplanned pregnancies while on the mini-pill, so it's off the table for us as an option :)

I was on it for a few months but was so inconsistent about taking it at the same time everyday so I just quit taking it. So...we are not protected currently until I'm done breastfeeding and can get back on the regular pill. I know roughly when I'm ovulating so we avoid during that time.

I hated it. I took it starting 6 weeks PP and quit it when we started TTC baby 2, so I was on it nearly 2 years! I EBF and didn't get my period until DS was about 10 months old, so that was the good thing. But I was an emotional wreck for most of the two years and had basically no libido. I would never take it again.

I went on the mini pill 6 weeks postpartum and stayed on it for about 5 days. It was difficult to remember to take it at the same time, but my main problem with it was that I felt like I was going crazy while I was on it. I had huge mood swings, deep depression and I could not stop crying. I stopped taking the mini pill and in 24 hours felt back to "myself." I don't think my experience was typical, but clearly the mini pill is not for me! I had some light bleeding after I stopped taking the mini pill, but AF has still not returned (I BF my 3 month old).

I'm taking the mini pill and have since six weeks postpartum. I'm now 6 months pp and AF still hasn't reared her ugly head yet! I'm also EBF. I was told it wasn't super effective on it's own, but is good while breastfeeding and won't affect your supply!

i started taking the mini pill at 6 weeks pospartum (am now 7 months postpartum). i haven't had a problem with it except for getting back into the groove of taking a pill every day. i heard the same thing as @coastmama: that it's important to take it at the same time every day.

i EBF and have not had AF yet (but my time is probably up soon!).

I've been on the mini-pill for 7 months now with no problems. I EBF and AF came back around 4-5months pp. At first it was very light, but the next time it was about like normal. It may be a little heavier than before getting pregnant, but not enough to be a big deal. I have no complaints.... other than having a hard time remembering to take it every day at the same time! From what I have read, you have to be very time conscious of taking it.... and as to its effectiveness.... I'm not pregnant... so that's all I can say about that. Hah. When I asked my doctor about it, he said it wasn't as effective as other pills, but that he had never known anyone to get pregnant while taking it and breastfeeding.

I had planned on getting the Mirena post partum, but it looks like that won't be happening, at least for a few months. Turns out despite my doctor telling me Mirena was an option, the office doesn't have it in stock. For them to order it from the pharmacy would cost me 800$. I'm a little annoyed. Just a bit.

So, since I'm breastfeeding, it looks like I'll be on the mini pill until I can find another gyno office that will see me and has it in stock.

I did not plan on using the mini pill, since we are probably one and done, so I know very little about it. Can those of you who have experience ease my worries? I'm concerned about it's effectiveness, how heavy my cycle will be, etc. I may only be using it for a few months, or it may be until I stop breastfeeding.

Tell me your stories, bees :)
