- I believe the baby is automatically added to your health insurance plan when it is born (that's how my plan worked). You need to contact your insurance within 30 days after birth to switch coverage to the father’s plan, confirm coverage, etc.

- You are supposed to notify your employer prior to taking FMLA when you have a reasonable date certain FMLA leave so they can start the paperwork (like, you expect you’ll be out starting sometime in July, you should tell them in advance of that date). You should notify your employer immediately when you go out so they can fill out the paperwork on your behalf with the correct dates. With my STD plan, I just needed my doctor to fill out a form and HR took care of the rest.

- We notified daycare when LO was born; she was already registered and waitlisted for starting approx. 12 weeks after her due date. We just adjusted slightly based on her actual birth date and when I went back to work.

- Immediately request copy of birth certificate (we had to request from City Hall) in writing with a check. Check your local gvt website. You may need this for health ins. purposes.

- Usually need to have your baby added to your health ins. within 30 days of the birth. Mine was a simple process, but some are rather difficult so I'd contact your company's HR dept to find out about the process.

- I just had to email my HR director when the baby was born to let her know my maternity leave was starting.

I wasn't sure what section this should go in but...

Is there a list anywhere of the TODOs that need to be done AFTER the baby's birth? For example, initiating your FMLA or STD through work, adding baby to health insurance, updating your daycare provider, etc?

I live in the US and I know Canada's maternity leaves are much different than ours. Can any WOHM provide a list of things they needed to do for work/insurance/etc. purposes after the baby was born and WHEN they needed to do them?
