So, I was reading this thread about an hour ago and thinking, ""Wow, E hasn't vomited in a while."

Sure enough, E's first morning action: puking all over herself, me, her changing table, the floor...

I get a lot of anxiety about it. DH is amazing and will step in and deal with it if he's home. But I've definitely had to deal with it. I can't say it has gotten easier for me.

You'll learn to deal, I won't say it gets easier though. I have a major phobia/anxiety over it, but I still deal with it (not well). Usually I call my Mom if my Husband is gone, now that she lives two hours away I call my MIL. It's a huge problem for me. I actually think it's gotten worse.

You are forced to get used to it. The choices are clean it up or leave it there, so you do what has to be done. I have been known to throw linens in the trash if it is a really bad episode.

The weird thing for me is that I went a decade without ever puking myself, including when I was pregnant and gave birth. But then I threw up after that a few times. It is so, so horrible.

I think little kid vomit somehow seems different than adult vomit.

That said, I still have major issues with it. I will only deal with it if I'm the only one there! Poop, I'm fine, though. Your mama reflexes kick in when need be but that doesn't mean you'll be ok with it necessarily.

Still gross but you have other priorities. Like the fact that your child is covered in it! So gross.

@Shizaz: some things exposure will fix, others you never get over. I know a paramedic whose daughter puked (hangover!) and she wouldn't go in the room and made her daughter clean it. All those emergencies she has seen as she still hates vomit.
So.... it might go away and it might not. You might luck out with kids that don't puke much.

I have a phobia with vomit and unfortunately it's gotten much much worse since my son was born. He's 2.5 and has had 3 stomach bugs plus he also tends to throw up when he coughs a lot when he has colds since his gag reflex is sensitive. I constantly worry about the next time he's going to get sick :(

I have vomited cleaning up my kid's vomit, and have vomited just from the smell of my kid's vomit. Not spit up, but vomit for sure. It's obviously less gross than a stranger's vomit, and you are concerned for your kid, but in my books it's still gross.

My daughter had a horrible vomiting episode last week. We were sitting together on the couch when all of a sudden she goes, "mommy?" And vomits all over me. I instinctively put out my hand and caught (almost) all her vomit in my hands.

I would have probBly vomited if someone brought up a scenario like that a few years ago, but now - it doesn't phase me :) other ppl's vomit/bodily fluids gross me out to no end (I have a hard time using public restrooms), but my own child's don't bother me in the least bit.

I have a legitimate phobia of vomit. I am not afraid of throwing up but i have a phobia of other people throwing up. I get shaky around it. Anyway, my daughter had a stomach bug and she barfed 7 times one night. I can't say i was fine around it. I still was shaky and anxious but it wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. She hasn't been sick since, so i cant tell you if it gets better or not.

You are more concerned for your child's health/reaction than to the vomit. Vomit never really bothered me, and that's good since she had severe reflux and would projectile everywhere, I was usually wearing it every day. Poop...it is true what they say that your own kid is dfrerent, I still gag when changing my niece/nephews diapers but not my own ;)

(all bets were off when I was in my first trimester of second pregnancy, couldn't' do poop it would make me vomit, it was my only aversion!)

@Shizaz: so, it's not like your kid's vomit is not gross, it's just not nearly as a gross as someone else's. My LO recently projectile vomited on me - totally unexpected. I picked her up out of her crib in the pitch black because she was sobbing and she puked directly on my face. It was beyond gross, but in the moment you deal with it...clean her up, clean her bed up and then deal with yourself. On the other hand, whenever my husband has a cold, he makes this weird gag noise in his throat that sounds like he's about to puke, and I have to leave the room because it makes me dry heave. So, I don't know why, but for me, it's different when it's my kid.

I have always hated vomit (I refused to drink alcohol for a long time for fear of throwing up) and I still hate it. It hasn't gotten easier or better for me. In fact, my husband probably thinks I overreact to vomit. He always tells me he will do the vomit, but they always seem to throw up when he isn't around.

@Shizaz: My MIL has never been able to tolerate vomit, even after 3 kids. Her and FIL had a deal that she would deal with poop and potty-training accidents (within reason, FIL was a really hands-on dad!) and he dealt with the vomit.

@Mae: I don't mind poop (diarrhea may be a different story when that time comes...) but the diapers I think I'll be fine with. I grew up with younger siblings and I use to like to help out so maybe that's why. But yeah, vomit... not looking forward to it.

@lovehoneybee: That sounds awful. The poor guy! DH and I did say that I will handle most of the poop (he has such an issue with poop) and he can handle the puke, but I know this isn't always going to be possible.

@mrbee: For sure!! I will definitely be one to hold my breath. I think the smell would definitely send me over the edge.

Yeah, definitely got used to it. My 2.5 year old had a stomach bug last weekend, and I was thrown up on, caught vomit, and carried him inside while he was covered. He's still so young, and just doesn't understand what's going on and wants Mommy.

I'm really lucky, though, because of DH is there he'll usually volunteer to clean it up :)

Cat vomit still totally grosses me out, though! :silly:

Eh... I didn't have a HUGE problem with it before but I certainly don't like it better now. Spit up is one thing.. that does not bother me at all. But legit vomit? So gross. It actually grosses me out more than poop. But maybe because I'm used to cleaning poop diapers multiple times/day and vomit is more rare (and also more ON ME sigh)....

I have a big problem with vomit. I hate vomiting and will do everything I can to prevent it. I hate the sound of someone vomiting, I hate seeing it, smelling it, thinking about it, etc.

I have such a hard time cleaning up my cat's fur ball vomit (my husband always does it but I have to if he isn't home).

I'm worried I won't be able to tolerate it when we have kids! I'm worried that our kid will throw up and as I'm cleaning it up, I'll be throwing up myself.

Was anyone the same way? Did you find that eventually it was no big deal?
