It was no where near my first experience, which I'm glad. My first HSG made me bed-riddened for 2 days after. I think I might have had a allergic reaction to the iodine that they flushed with. I didn't have any discharge but bleeding, I don't think, or if I did, the blood covered it up. Mine wasn't a flow, necessarily, but just lots and lots of clotting. My biggest clue that I had an infection was that I woke up the next day feeling like I had been hit with a Mac truck-it hurt to move, I couldn't eat, I had chills, and I pretty much just wanted to die. I called the on-call doc (it was the 4th of July), and his response was pretty much, "huh, that's weird, you shouldn't have an infection because you're at almost no risk for one. But that's what it sounds like you have, so I'll call you in a script." I started feeling better within a few doses of the antibiotics, but I was really tired and noticed a low-grade fever for a few days afterwards. Once the medicine kicked in, it just took a bit for the soreness to go away.</p> <p>I'm sorry your experience wasn't great, either. I was pretty unprepared for the potential that it could go anything but smoothly afterwards, so it came as quite a shock that I didn't bounce back right away. I had cramps for about 20 minutes after the procedure before they subsided. Then, around 3 hours later I started getting cramps again. They told me that I was not at a particularly high risk for an infection, since my tubes were clear and I had never birthed a baby before, but that you just never know. I was in discomfort immediately, like mild period cramps, which turned to severe period-cramp pain later that night. The next day, I woke up feeling like I had the flu-it was awful. Turns out I had a cervical infection, for which they gave me antibiotics. The medicine made me functional within about 24 hours, but I was still in a lot of discomfort and pain for a few days afterwards. I needed Motrin and a lot of rest to make it feel better. I think I was better within a week or so?
