We kuind of have a hybrid of this, just by pure luck. Our dayhome provider only has LO right now, and occasionally has 1 or 2 other kids (once a week or less), so she is kind of like a nanny in the sense that it's one on one and we dictate a lot of the way things are done. She does take LO to the local Ontario Early Years program at least 2x per week so she can play with other kids in a more structured setting. It's awesome because if LO is tired and needs a nap, they stay home, but if she up for it, off to OEY to play.

Personally, I would love daycare for over one year old. It allows them to interact with other kids which can be very important. I loved having a one on one baby sitter but because he had food issues I didn't trust daycare. I am hoping to do the same with the next kid (if there is one). One on one care for a year and a half and then a center.

I agree with daycare, the socialization and all of the activities are great.

I think day care is better. Mainly for the interaction with other children and adults. But honestly, as ridiculous as it sounds our day care has an amazing "curriculum". They do baby sign language, art classes, music classes, spanish classes, etc. I don't think many nannies would do those things on a regular scheduled basis.

I'm currently exploring childcare options for my 13-month-old right now and we are going with a daycare centre (as opposed to a nanny or home daycare). Initially I wanted to a home daycare but I think it's important for him to interact with a larger number of kids and be cared for by a variety of adults. I also think with a centre there is a greater chance that your LO will be around others close to their age (rather than a home daycare that may just have a 3 and 4 year old).

Ideally, i would want to put LO in daycare at 18 months (more daycare options open up as well) because they should be on a 1 nap schedule by then. But i know it's not easy to find someone who will want to nanny for 6 months.

I think the interaction is really important and helps with the separation anxiety.

I think I would go with a daycare setting just so they have more experience dealing with other children! I think M is already learning so much from her daycare. She seems to want to do everything the older kids are doing - like standing, walking, etc. It's good for her!

bear with me as i may be posting lots of childcare topics now that i am starting this process!

L will be one year old when i go back to work. DH and i assumed nanny is best if we can afford it (have no idea yet if i can), but i want to know what would be ideal if cost is not an issue? what are the pros and cons of a nanny versus daycare when L is a year old?
