A lot of people find that even when they do buy the seats that convert to boosters that the booster is pretty lousy so in the end they wind up getting another one anyway. Much better to get something that is easy to use and install even if it isn't a forever seat in my opinion. The other thing to consider is that many of the 3 in 1 seats will expire before your kid grows out of it which seems ridiculous but I guess they assume people don't pay attention.

We considered the Diono Radian but my DH thought it was overkill because I'm just over 100 lbs! And I agree with pp that booster seats are really inexpensive. We also have a britax marathon.

I'm only 17 pounds over 100....putting that into perspective I doubt your LO will be in a carseat even at 65 pounds.

Ok, not feeling crazy for thinking she won't be needing something up to 100lbs! And @Kemma: you bring up a great point, something I definitely hadn't thought of!

Thanks everyone!

We're starting to think about the next carseat and something else to watch out for is the expiry date on seats. I see no point in buying a seat that will fit your child when they're ten if the seat will expire when they're only six or seven!

Some of the seats in NZ that are over $500 have all the bells and whistles (incl the higher weight / height limit) but only have a five year lifespan. A cheaper, smaller seat with a lower weight limit will probably also fit better when rear facing in the car anyways!

We just went for a Britax Marathon. Easy install. I think it goes to 70 F/F. The only thing I dislike is we will have to flip it from RF to FF soon before our LO is 2 because he has almost outgrown it by height RF.

One that holds up to 100lbs is just about my size, I doubt you would need it.
We have a Britax seat that forward faces to 70lbs, rear faces to 35lbs.

G is almost 9 and doesn't weigh 60lbs! I presume P and any/all our future children will likely follow that weight pattern.

We just did the 2 in 1. It goes to 65 Lbs. I've heard you obviously get a better fit with these. Boosters are cheap so when she's ready for that we will just buy one

So LO is just about done in her infant car seat, lots of room to go in weight, but length she is pressing through and will reach the max in length far sooner than weight.

We purchased a 3 in 1 for the next step and after an attempted installation, it's back in the box to be returned tomorrow. One, the buckle sucked (flimsy, hard to undo plastic), and two the seat didn't fit well in our SUV.

The 3 in 1 options go to 100lbs, the 2 in 1 options to 65lbs.

I have no intention to rush my LO out of her car seat when she's older, do any of you with older LOs have experience with this, do we *really* need something that goes up to 100lbs, or will 65lbs do?

I feel like by the time I was 10 years old I was hardly 65lbs soaking wet, and I think our girl will probably be similar build and never get anywhere near 100lbs and still in a car seat.

Clearly I won't justify her safety, there is a 2 in 1 of the same brand we currently have with the chest buckle I like (is same as her current seat) and I think I would be more happy with. If she gets to out grow that we will of course go to whatever would be needed, but I just don't see the 3 in 1 really being as practical as it is intended to be for us? Maybe I'm missing something....!

Any suggestions/tips?
