@AggieDaze: both my kids had raging ear infections from surgery itself that required the drops plus oral antibiotics. They never got ear infections after that post op one however. Go back to the doctor.

@travellingbee: definitely going to take him to either the ENT or his pediatrician first thing tomorrow. Better to get it checked.

@fannymae: thank you!!

@wrkbrk: thank you thank you! Upon googling, I've found similar stories and a lot of people said ~2 weeks. I wish the doctor had told us that was a possibility so we were prepared for it - instead of just saying that most kids are back to normal within 24 hours. I'm hoping this will prove to be a good decision for us long term. It's hard because the ear infections were certainly annoying but they never caused this HUGE sleep disruption or even fevers.

@Mrs. Lion: really really helpful to hear. Just knowing we arent the only ones. 🤞This only lasts for a short time. We've been thrust back to newborn sleep levels, but worse 😂

@AggieDaze: I'm so sorry! Tubes made such a positive difference for DS. My friends DD though had a terrible reaction to the anesthesia. She would wake up absolutely hysterical from the afternoon of the surgery on. It basically gave her night terrors or some equivalent. From memory it took two weeks or so to straighten out.

Not sure if this helps, but it took us at least a week for sleep to get back to normal after the anesthesia. Our doctor said it can throw off their circadian rhythms, so maybe your lo just needs a little more time? I am sorry you guys are dealing with this :( We didn't have fevers or anything, just really weird sleep patterns. Hang in there. The tubes helped both of our littles so much over time.

Our 18 month old had ear tube surgery Thursday morning and has been completely miserable almost ever since.

The misery started that evening when he began running fever. He ran that fever off and on Thursday night and Friday. I called the on call doctor multiple times, and he said it can be normal to run a fever after surgery. The fever broke late Friday night - after Tylenol - and he didn't have one all day Saturday until he woke me up screaming at 2:30 Sunday morning. He went from sleeping thru the night from 8 am to 6:30 pm to waking up miserable and screaming multiple times. DH and I have also been forced into sleeping on his floor due to the fever and constant wake ups.

Did anyone else experience this after ear tube surgery?

Everyone I talk to said their child turned into a "brand new happy baby" immediately after ear tubes and was definitely their normal self within 24 hours. He doesn't have any other symptoms other than seeming miserable - crap sleep, stage 5 clinger during the day, and fevers. I'm so disappointed with how this is going so far.
