@hilsy85: Man, that's a tough schedule. Honestly, my DS has been skipping naps every now and then and it can be rough sometimes but then he goes to bed right at 7 and sleeps a solid 12 hours. If I were you I might try the 3 day preschool and skip naps if I needed. I'd rather have the early bedtime than a late bedtime and no downtime with DH. Maybe embrace a quick stroller nap and then early bedtime? Oh my DS turns 3 next month for a frame of reference.

Eta: I would keep trying for naps or at least "quiet time" in bed on non preschool days.

@hilsy85: So the director and I talked about this, she told me the reason why they do the snack in class is because at the beginning of the year, a lot of the kids were falling asleep in the car on the way home, but I think that's not applicable in your situation!

Honestly, at your son's age, my son still needed the nap, but he was a terrible sleeper, up at the crack of dawn, and several times in the night. For him, also, any time he is sleeping pat 4, it's a nightmare at bedtime, because he's fallen too deep into sleep. Not to discourage you AT ALL, just our experience.

@hilsy85: But a stroller nap on the way to school might do the trick!

@birdofafeather: ha yeah I think we'd be out of luck there too!

@daniellemybelle: they're all within walking distance...he might fall asleep in the stroller, which would be annoying! I hate stroller naps :silly:

yeah, i would probably do a late afternoon nap. there's no way she would fall asleep before lunch at this point in the game!

Does he nap in the car? Could you do a cat nap on the way to school? I bet he will still take longer naps on the days that he's at home.

@raintreebee: I think this is what I am leaning toward...maybe nap from 3:30-5, and 9pm bedtime? Ack, leaves us no time at night for just us...but on the upside, maybe he'd sleep in later! And thanks! Two neighborhood schools--need to decide between them now!

@hilsy85: congrats! Hope it is somewhere in the neighborhood. We are still at two naps so I have no idea if this would work but how about a 3:30 nap and later bedtime?

@looch: ah ok. LO will only be 2y11 m when he starts, so dropping a nap is not the end of the world, but we will also hopefully have a newborn in the house, so would LOVE to preserve the nap if possible.

We do an afternoon preschool, it wasn't my first choice, but it's worked out really well. He's in school from 12-3, with lunch at home before. They serve a snack in school.

My son dopped his nap on his own in August, right before school started. He was 3y9m.

@hilsy85: He wakes up at 7am. I know, it's pretty crazy that he's able to nap again at 9:30 (he usually falls asleep around 10). I think it helps that we never moved his nap to the afternoon, since we knew he'd be doing afternoon preschool when he was transitioning from two naps to one - so we just dropped his afternoon nap.

I'm pretty sure our days of morning-napping are limited though, I can't imagine he'll be able to take a morning nap when he's 3!

Hooray! That's so exciting. J is in afternoon preschool now (3 days a week), and will be next year too (5 days). At the moment he naps from 9:30-11:30, then has lunch and goes to school. I'm not sure how long the morning nap will last though, I'm surprised he's still willing to do it now!

I'll be curious to see what other people do, but I have a feeling that if he stops being able to nap in the morning, he'll just go without a nap. As it is he's fine being awake from 11:30 until he goes to bed at 8, so maybe he'll just start sleeping a bit later? A mom can dream...

We just got all our acceptance emails for LO for preschool next year (woo hoo!). Still deciding where he will go, but it looks like either way it will be an afternoon program: either 3 or 4 days a week, 12:30 - 3pm. If your LO has this schedule, how did you handle lunch, nap, etc? My LO is napping right now from 1-3, which obviously won't work...
