I started putting it on her face during nursing sessions around 5 months. I let her have it in crib at 6 months. It's the first thing she grabs when she gets in bed and I don't think she'd sleep happily without it. She is almost 2 now.

I started giving it to him around 5 months, and he was maybe 8 months before he started to really snuggle it. It doesn't leave the cot though. Now at 18 months as soon as I give it to him he will rub it all over his face and snuggle it into his neck, so cute!

We started putting it in LO's crib around 7 months even though I didn't think he'd care for it. But I see him holding it in his sleep all the time now (he's almost 9 months).

@MsMini: super cute. Wow.

I've tried to get her into one and push it up near her during nursing sessions. She actually seems to dislike it, like it's annoying to her. Oh well. Based on these responses, it seems like we have a few more months to go before she may want one anyway!

ETA: I did leave it in the crib with her one time and came in to find it over her face. :shocked: It's lightweight, but it still freaked me out and I therefore haven't tried leaving it with her since then.

Basically exact same experience as @gingerbebe: - we introduced around 4 months and only use at bedtime/naptime. He loves chewing on it so we have two that we swap out. Often he reaches for it while I'm singing his bedtime song before i put him in his crib

Both of my LOs were not interested in lovies under 1 yo. DS finally became interested at 18 months (he's now 4 and still sleeps with AAALLL the lovies). DD is 18 months and only vaguely interested in her teddy bear and not interested in the lovey at all.

For LO1 I started cosleeping with the lovey at around 3 months, then sleep trained at 6 months with the lovey. He is 2.5 now and it's his best friend. He is super attached, it's the only thing he wants when he is sick. "No dinner, no juice, no water, I just want my E(lephant)". We restrict it bed unless he is sick, then he can take it to the living room.

It worked so well with him I introduced her lovey from birth for LO2. Same deal, cosleep with the lovey and sleep trained at 6 months. She is only 15 months but she recognizes it as a sleep cue, cuddles it all night and will call it by name.

We also have smaller versions of both loveys in the car.

We introduced one to my DS at 6 months and he couldn't have cared less. He attaches to toys, but they change every few months. Right now it is a really hard vinyl baby doll.

DD we introduced one at 2 months because I felt like she was looking for one. She attached SO quickly, and it helps with her sleep and naps so much I wish I would have introduced one earlier for DS. If/when we have a 3rd baby I will introduce one pretty much right away I think!

We introduced one at 4-ish months - whenever he got good at rolling both ways so that I wasn't worried about him getting it over his face. It's the last thing I do before leaving his room for sleep time. It's been a lifesaver because he uses it as a self soother and a teether. He doesn't like any kind of teething product (mostly because he's too busy playing during the day to gnaw on something) but at night he really feels the sore gums so he chews and sucks on his lovey. Luckily we have two and we can swap them out in the wash!

We introduced it when she was about 4 months and we were sleep training. We continued to really push it on her and she liked it, but there was not a really strong attachment until she started daycare at 9 months. Her attachment has continued to grow - now she asks for him if she doesn't have him at naptime or bedtime and she likes to hold him if she is upset. He also enjoys eating cereal with milk... :)

Neither of my kids ever liked one. We tried from birth. They're now 1 and almost 3. The older one chose a little beanie baby sized dog as her special toy around 17 months without prompting. The younger one still doesn't have anything she is attached to.

I gave DS an A&A security blanket around six months, but he didn't really take to it until months later. At 2.5 he is still very much attached (we restrict it to sleep times only unless we are traveling).

I wish I'd have given her one earlier - she got (and still is) very attached to her blanket and by the time I decided to give her a lovey (which is from the same set as her beloved blanket) it was too late. She doesn't care about it at all but needs the blanket to sleep. If I were to do it again, I'd introduce it during nursing sessions early.

My mom got LO one for Christmas when she was 7 months old. She has never cared much about it, although we didn't put it in her crib because I'm a stickler for rules. Right when she turned 1 though I gave her a stuffed animal for her crib and she was immediately obsessed with it (even though she didn't care much about it when it was in her toy area). So maybe she would've been into the blanket lovey thing earlier if I'd given it to her to sleep.
