DS never tried to climb out (even though he was a climber on everything else!). We did move him to a bed around 25 months just because he was a terrible sleeper and we thought it would help.

My situation is a lot like @twodoghouse: but with one. :) My son is on the taller side and hit his gross motor milestones early but he never climbed out. He hiked his leg over the rail a few times but never went beyond that. It's personality for him - he was a daredevil baby but has become much more cautious and timid as a two year old.

DS1 (3.5) was super active and a climber but he never climbed out of his crib when he was alone in there. He's been in a bed for a year and he hardly gets out of that either. Just yells for us!
DS2 (7 months) has started pulling up and trying to climb the rails so we had to drop the mattress. We'll see if he's going to try to get out as he gets older...

DS is very tall and strong, and could have easily climbed out, but he never did. We did convert his crib to a toddler bed a little after he turned 2, though. We had like a week where he would wake up screaming constantly...like 6x a night, and it was a last ditch desperate effort. The first night he was in it he was back to STTN!

DD is 7.5 months and has started pulling herself up on the crib, but that's it.

DD1 is 4, and strongly believes she can't get out (she never has) of her sister's crib. At 2 DD2 will throw one leg on the rail, threatening to climb out, but hasn't done it. I think she figured if her big sister can't, she can't eitherx

MY DS is super tall but we still have him sleeping in a zipadeezip so he doesn't have good grip and has never climbed out. He did get super excited once and flip himself over when we were coming in to get him but surprisingly, he isn't a climber when it comes to his crib. He's 2 now and I don't plan to take him out of his crib any time soon!

Mine fell out once by accident (she was trying to reach the doorknob) at age 2.5 and it scared her so badly she hasn't tried again since. She'll be 3 in a couple months and she's still in the crib.

DD turns 2 in just over a week and has never tried this. She stuck her foot up on the edge once a few months ago but I think it was more of a protest towards me with no intention of actually doing anything about it. She likes to climb up on chairs and be independent but she's generally pretty careful about things - hopefully we're fine for the remaining year or so she's in a crib!

DS started crawling out at 18 months when he went through a couple weeks of separation anxiety. He went from being a great sleeper (lay him down and leave the room, no tears) to throwing a huge fit at bedtime. We ended up converting to a toddler bed and 2 months later still have to stay in the room till he falls asleep (usually 10 minutes).

It was around 18 months for DS. He did it twice and hasn't done it since (knock on wood). He is pretty tall (much taller than his twin sister who has never climbed out), but I think it comes down to personality differences. He is my thrill seeking, wild child, whereas DD is a bit more cautious. She'd stand in her crib all day and scream for me before trying to climb out. They were both early for gross motor skills, but DD hit the major ones even earlier than DS.

Sometime in her 11th month. She was small for her age but always hit physical milestones early. My second LO was in the 90% for height but hit her physical milestones a bit later than lo1 and didn't ever try but we took the crib down before she was a year and a half just because she was happier on a floor bed.

DS2 is 28 months and hasn't attempted (100th % for height). He can climb out of the pack n play when we travel, which he does, but hasn't tried his crib at home yet. I'm planning on keeping him in the crib as long as possible, so hopefully he doesn't try anytime soon!

I don't remember exactly, but it was between 18 and 24 months -- I think closer to the 2 year mark. She was having a massive, out of control tantrum and I put her into the crib to calm down, and she was so mad she climbed out. She never did it again, though she would threaten to if she didn't want to go to bed (would glare at me and put her foot up on the rail). We tried to convert the bed around her second birthday because I was afraid she would climb out again, and it was a disaster. Tried again a couple months later and it didn't work either. When she was about 28 months, she told me she was ready for a big girl bed, we converted it, and that was that. She's right around the 50th percentile for both height and weight.

Babies are 11 months and are pulling themselves up in the crib, cruising (on furniture) and DS is using his push walker. I don't see him climbing out soon. They are not walking yet.

I am worried about this and it's on my mind because of the story that went viral about a mom finding on of her twins stuck between the two cribs. It terrifies me but at 11 months, I don't see them trying to climb out of their crib. I'll see how they do in a month from now. Hopefully we'll be moving soon so I can space their cribs apart more in our new place.

Oh, babies are small in the 25-35 percentile range for height.

How old was your child when they first climbed out of the crib?

How did it relate to other developmental milestones like pulling up and, standing, and walking?

If your child is on the taller side, did they climb out earlier than their same age peers?
