I would definitely recommend a backpack for your diaper bag for travel or maybe the whole trip. It's so convenient to be able to babywear and carry your diaper bag, and still have your hands free. With twins, I do this almost every time I leave the house, and it works so well. So you could easily have a wheely carryon and still carry a cup of coffee ;) Safe travels!

@chrispygal: I just did London to StL and I'm about to fly back on Thursday. My girl was 8 months when we came and she's 9 months now.

1. The international flight had a changing table, I dont know about our small plane. Check http://www.seatguru.com/ for the airline/plane model and it'll give you all the information on what amenities you will find on your plane.

2/3. I had C in the stroller the whole time I was in the airport. I had my Ergo with me and never ended up using it. I think either way is fine, really. My stroller did just fine being gate checked.

4. You're not delusional. I had the stroller, a diaper bag and a carry-on and I did fine. I was traveling alone. It takes a little maneuvering, but it's doable.

5. Yes, you can take pre-mixed formula. They'll just scan it through this weird machine and they may make you open and taste one. Be forewarned, formula is GROSS. lol

6. Take a couple of toys and maybe load a couple games/videos onto your smartphone or iPad, if you have one, and it's totally fine. C really just chilled with her toys for most of the 8 hour flight from London.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

I would say rent a stroller. We travel with a stroller and like having it in the airport with us... but we use a very cheap umbrella stroller as our travel stroller. I would be super annoyed if the airline broke my nice stroller... and apparently they are good at doing that.

I think you're not allowed to have the baby in the carrier during takeoff and landing. You'll need her in your lap.

If you're not completely against using powdered formula, it might be worth it for the flight. That way you can just walk though security with your powdered formula, and buy some water on the other end of security for mixing your formula. For us it saved the hassle of needing our formula checked out, but you could go either way.

I'll comment on the Disney portion since you have a lot of comments on the other aspects. I did Disneyland with my 9 month old and 4 yr old and again when DS was 15 months. It sounds like you may be going to FL, but I would think it is very similar. When he was small, he actually stayed in the infant carrier (we pushed it in the snap n go) for a good part of the time, but if I had to do it again, I would totally carry him around the park in my Beco, but I would have both with me for options. Also, all of the parks have a Nursing Mother's Lounge which can also be used for other purposes such as having a warm place to sit down to mix and feed formula, solids, change a diaper, etc. It is usually in the Main Street area of Disney, and the location varies for other parks, check the map. I believe they also have filtered water that you can use to mix formula. I think they are also stocked with diapers, baby food, etc that you can buy if you are in a bind. Have fun! Disney is very accomodating for infants and everyone is willing to lend a hand.

P.S. When you're checking in, try going to the counter because the airline personnel were SOOO nice when they saw me with the baby and actually moved people's seats around so that I got a whole row with my DH so we had an empty seat to put our LO in which was so necessary.

I recently had a trip from Boston to Portland Oregon and it was 6 hours one way and then on the way back I had a layover in LA so it ended up being 2.5 and then another 6.5 hours. On the first leg, my baby had a massive blowout as we were taking off. The bathrooms usually have at least one stall with a changing table - just look for the sign with the mom and baby. The folding table folds over the toilet and, while it's cramped, it's actually better because your body is literally right next to your baby to prevent him from rolling over. I had enough room to change his clothes and if you sit him up, he can look at the mirror and amuse himself while you change his shirt.

I would rent the stroller while you're there. I brought my stroller and carseat with me and it was SUCH A HASSLE. Also, I don't think you really want to deal with packing up the stroller into the case at the gate with a baby. As a side note, we had gate checked our stroller and they actually forgot to load it on the plane so we didn't get it the next afternoon. Thank goodness we had our carrier so we could carry our baby around a little bit. And they let me go through the metal detector with him just strapped to me.

Formula - they'll probably just wave a chemical detector over it but it never goes in the formula and they do it in front of you. I carried about 20 oz of BM and didn't have any issues.

Baggage - if you have your friend helping out, it shouldn't be an issue.

On the plane - try to feed your baby as your taking off to help pop her ears. But be sure to not do it too early, I started feeding when we started moving but it took about 15 minutes to actually take off and my LO was so not interested in eating at that point. Also, try to have new toys to distract her. My LO was fascinated with a tic tac container and played with it for an hour.

Good luck!

If you take the stroller be sure to buy the britax protective bag. If it gets broken the airline will not reimburse for it since they deem it a fragile item.

I liked having the stroller when I flew because my daughter got heavy after awhile and it was nice to throw the bags on there when she was in the carrier.

Yes, you can take formula. I printed out a copy of the TSA regulations to carry with me in case I had any issues with breast milk but i never needed it. You can also take juice, water, and ice packs so I strongly recommend taking advantage of that and packing something to drink for yourself and saying it's for the baby. I even packed a lunch since I had ice packs. Saved me a fortune at the airport.

I had to remove my daughter from the carrier at take off and landing during all 4 flights and as we went through security.

I've just taken 3 long distance flights with my 6 month old (they were looooong flights too, 8 hrs, 14 hrs, and 8.5 hrs) and it wasn't bad.

Nappy changes: yes, every plane I was on had change tables in every bathroom above the toilet - just like what you find in a lot of public bathrooms. They are small and definitely shorter than normal change tables but definitely functional and not that difficult.

As for strollers - we didn't bother bringing one as we had strollers waiting for us in all of our destinations. We just carried LO in a baby bjorn through the airport and brought a blanket that was only to be used on the floor of the airport so she could kick around a little bit during layovers. That worked out pretty well and I was really happy not to have to worry about checking a stroller at the gate.

If you have a friend who can help you, I don't see why you wouldn't bring a carryon plus your diaper bag. She can help you store it overhead and it shouldn't be a big deal.

I don't think most airlines let you have your baby attached to you during take off and landing but I'm not positive. You will need to be able to strap your baby in with the infant seat belt but that can be used in any position, reclining, sitting, laying on the side etc.

I didn't have to worry about formula but I'm pretty sure parents of babies are allowed to exceed the liquid requirements with formula, but you will probably have to taste it in front of security to prove it is formula.

Other than that, just bring some stories or quiet toys to entertain her and make sure she's eating or sucking on a pacifier for descent!

Good luck!

Poop- if it's terrible, go to the bathroom. If it's not awful and it's near the end of the flight, wait and change when you land. It will be much easier.

Stroller- seems like a wash. Whatever would be easier for you.

Carrier- it's so easy to go through the airport with the carrier. I never had to take LO out for security. They would have let me wear her for takeoff, but she wanted to stand and look around and nurse instead.

Bags- I've traveled by myself wearing LO and had a carry on + baby bag. It's doable. Especially if you have someone with you.

I'd be inclined to rent a stroller...too many stories of airlines breaking them!

Is one of the bags that you are taking a backpack or on wheels? That would make things easier.

Not every plane has a changing table. Check out if it may be offered by either calling your airline or googling the plane type.

I can't answer all of your questions, but here are a few:

Almost every plane I've been on has a changing table in the bathroom. I suspect it would be tight, but they are provided.

Baby formula: Here's a link to the TSA website regarding baby formula and breast mik. http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/traveling-children

I know there have been many posts on traveling with infants and I have been scouring these! I have a few additional questions on some specifics and maybe looking for some advice on things.

LO will be 8 months old when we travel, and we will have just a short 3 hour direct flight (which I'm sure will seem super long). Here are my questions:

-My biggest worry is what happens if she has a big 'ol poop on the plane. Where would I change her? Are there even changing tables in the plane bathrooms? I have so much anxiety over this. haha.

-I have the option to rent a stroller (city mini) and have it delivered to our resort (disney) the day we arrive, or I can bring ours from home (b-agile) and gate check it. I figure the cost to be almost exactly the same once I buy a travel bag and rain cover. What would you do? Pro of having my stroller would be a place for her to sit in the airport and to have it for waking too/from places, with the big con of having to lug it around or worry about it getting damaged. What would you do? (p.s. I saw Mrs. Bee's suggestion of just buying a stroller for travel but I really want something that reclines well so LO can sleep when she needs to. This is why I am leaning towards a more traditional stroller.)

-I am in the process of testing out carriers and hoping my 6 month old will be ok with being carried, or at least will be by 8 months old. haha. Is it just easier to carry them in the airport? Will the airline let you keep the baby strapped in there (facing out with the Beco) during take off and landing? LO is too small for the Cares system and I'm not super thrilled with the idea of her just being on my lap.

-Am I delusional to think I can also manage to bring a carry on bag along with a diaper bag and my baby? I am traveling without my husband but with a girlfriend. She says she normally doesn't take a carry on bag so she could help me carry. I just don't want to overwhelm ourselves.

-Formula. LO is currently drinking pre-mixed formula. Will they let me take this through security?

-Anything you could absolutely not live without for an airplane trip? We are lucky that LO is a very mild, good-tempered baby so I am keeping my fingers crossed that she still is in two months.

P.S. If anyone has done Disney with a baby, I'll take any advice you can offer up as well.

Thanks!
