@Truth Bombs: Oh good point, I hadn't even thought of that but it makes way more sense for them to do that!!

We liked the book "airport" by somebody Barton (for older kids). For littles, we just liked having teething toys and things to suck on for distraction, plus puffs and baby food. We also have some toys that only come out on the airplane like the fisher price doodle board but again those would be for age 1 and up. Don't know if that helps!

Just a head's up as someone whose family lives far away: We just bought car seats to live at my parents rather than deal with traveling with them. So they may not have a need for a travel bag or seat. I agree with @snowjewelz: that an Ergo would be my suggestion if they don't have one.

Carrier if they don't have one already! You probably can't really go wrong w/ an Ergo.

There is hammock thing that attached to the tray table and becomes like a seat for the baby too, I forget what that's called.

But both things are kinda pricey...

I don't have a carseat bag but we use a Go Go Babyz travelmate (we actually have the mini one) and it has been great.

What about the inexpensive, light weight carseat from Wal-mart that people buy for plane travel?

Yep definitely on the car seat bag. Or the matching travel bag for their umbrella stroller. Travel blackout curtains?

Friends of mine that live across the country from both sides of their family are having their first baby, and there is nothing left on their registry to buy! I had a great idea to get them some gifts that will make flying with their baby easier, since they inevitably will be traveling 4-5 times a year.

Any ideas on what to include?

I was thinking a backpack carseat bag because we have one and it made schlepping our stuff way easier, and some airplane board books.
