Our LO's first flight was at 16 months. We planned both flights around her nap time, got her a seat and brought the carseat, and she slept for at least half the trip each way (3 hr flights). The rest of the flight, we kept her occupied with a mixture of snacks (including "new ones" she had never had, we basically raided the toddler food aisle at target), a few books, some videos (she was obsessed with a few short music videos at that age), and a couple very basic apps. Although she was still nursing at that age, I didn't try it on the flight. She was still using a pacifier so we just let her use that on the ascent/descent.

I bring an extra bag in my carryon, so that when we need to deplane, I can just throw everything into it that I've taken out during the flight, without having to puzzle it back into the carryon.

Then I also bring an extra disposable bag of some sort for the garbage, so much garbage, lol.

I also bring an empty bottle and fill it with water past security. As soon as I get on the plane, i take the airsick bag out and put the bottle in that, those seatback pockets are gross. Then I wipe down all the surfaces with pack of wipes that I keep in the cross body bag that i wear the entire flight. This is so that if i have to get up or get separated from my stuff, I have my ID, passport, etc on my person and not back somewhere else.

As for the actual child, what I'd suggest is just keeping it simple. Don't bring too many things, don't feed too many snacks.

We have flown a lot with DD in her first 2 years and honestly, that age was the worst for us. Mainly because she had just started walking at 14 months and was dropping down to 1 nap, though, so yours may go better!

At that age, a window seat was super helpful. We brought her as a lap child for short flights like that and she loved looking out the window.

I flew with her alone on Southwest at 15 months and the flight attendant brought her a standard plastic cup of water with a LID and a straw and that was fascinating to her for a good 30 min or so (I know Delta doesn't seem to have lids, but maybe others do).

Good luck! We were actually delayed for hours and then stranded overnight at the Detroit airport on Christmas Eve when she was 16 months. DD was sick and two of us were in tears (hubby held us together) but we survived it and the rescheduled flight on Christmas morning was actually fine, despite all of us being exhausted. Kids are resilient!

We are bringing a lightweight car seat for my 18 month old and planning the same entertainment as a road trip. I imagine she might take a nap since the plane has loud white noise and she'll be in her seat.

Apps she likes: bubble popping, shape sorting, YouTube offline (I choose videos beforehand, she loves a dog documentary the best), drawing, and anything Doctor panda (the potty/bathing one is cute).

My daughter has this one book that she will "read" to herself for ages, so I will start with that and snacks, then pull out the iPad as a last resort.

My son was totally fine to watch with very low sound - I'm not sure he could hear but ar that age he didn't seem to care. Peekaboo Barn is a big hit as an app. Lots of snacks. Will you be alone? If you can manage it, have one preboard with all the stuff and the other one wait with your daughter until the last minute so she gets as much running around time as possible. Also if she just wants to walk up and down the aisles think of it as a chance to show off how cute she is!

Oh, and his ears weren't a problem. We had a water bottle and let him drink from that but the pressure didn't seem to bother him.

I flew solo with DS at 15 mo, but it was only a 1-hr flight. He was not really into screen time at that age, so we managed maybe 5 minutes of Sesame Street. The rest of the time we read books and that kept him fairly entertained in addition to snacks. I did a lollipop on takeoff/landing which seemed to do the trick (and the novelty factor was a plus).

The best thing I did when we flew at 15 months was get a seat for lo and bring the car seat. I can't image the trip with him as a lap baby...

We got a lot of time out of special snacks and some finger puppets. Also watching curious George without sound was OK.

We flew at 18 months, earlier this year. I was able to get a short nap out of her. And stickers were entertaining to her. She liked sticking them on the seat back and tray (and they peeled off easily). She's not really big on screen time so I didn't even attempt to rely on it. We played peek a boo with a A&A blanket. She liked standing on my lap and looking around at others. She was really entertained by others acknowledging her.

And snacks. Pirates booty, goldfish crackers, cheezits.

Pacifier will help with ears (if you use one). LO had hers at 18 months. We flew again at 20 months without it and no issues. She does have tubes in her ears though, so I don't think she gets the pressure problem.

LO started liking stickers around that age. We have only flown once, a long flight at 22 mos and stickers were a big hit.

Change of clothes for both of you. My 15 month old DD discovered her motion sickness for the first time on a 5 hour plane ride to Hawaii when I was holding her. It. Was. Gross.

We did a long trip (4 total flights at least 5 hours each) with DD when she was right around 18 months. Color wonder markers were good. And I also filled a tin lunch box with random $1 store items and that occupied so much of her time! She loved finding all the toys in there and none of them cost me much so I didn't worry about leaving any behind if they got lost somewhere under the seat. Oh and snacks of course, kid loves to eat :)

At that age (and still--my DD is 20 months old) the best electronic thing for my daughter was videos of herself. Haha. That was WAY more exciting to her than any actual TV show, etc. Not sure how long your flights are, but might keep her occupied for a least a little bit.

I flew solo with DS at this age. He did shows for a few minutes no headphones and I don't think he could hear, but he watched. He liked a drawing app and a bubble popping app. We did snacks and I think a binky for takeoff and landing. Mostly he was happy to look around and wave at everyone. He also liked putting things in and out of bags/cups. And finger/sock puppets.

We flew a bunch of times early on with DD but haven't since she was 8 months. We're flying this weekend (15 months) and thanksgiving (17 months). Not sure what to expect now or how to plan to occupy her... Mickey Mouse Clubhouse kinda works but she doesn't want to wear headphones (she eventually will, right??). I haven't found any good iPad apps either.

Soooo Bees, help me out! I'm open to any and all tips! What should I bring for her! Neither flight is super long (2 and 4 hours) but the thought of her not wanting to sit either... 😬

Also what about takeoff/landing without the nursing now? We still are but I highly doubt she has the attention span for it in public now.
