@NorthStar: yes, I was actually born in Fairfax and we're visiting my dad, then going to the beach (either Rehoboth, OC, or OBX for the week). We're mainly staying in the suburbs before the beach, so we should only have 1 day in DC proper... but you do bring up a good point about that bring a really exhausting day!

I don't have an answer, but have you been to D.C. before? You can easily walk MILES per day and I don't see a 4 year old doing that. Getting a stroller for both will make it so much easier for you. I'm just not sure of the perfect combination..

@Pumuckl: We have an Ergo and I can carry H (currently 20 months, 29 lbs) in it for about 30 minutes before we're both a sweaty mess. For sure I'd wear him through the airport if we only bring the umbrella.

We traveled internationally with our two 2 months ago and we had the umbrella stroller and used it for both kids. Sometimes for our then 30m old and at other times our 9m old. We loved having the option to carry our older when he was younger in a SSC to board the aircraft so that might be something to consider too.

@lamariniere: Wow! I would love to take the kids abroad eventually... but I guess we have to master a short 5-hour flight first  No damage to the carseats when you checked them? It would be a lot easier if we did curbside checking for them... we have one padded car seat bag, but might need to buy another one for the 2nd seat.

I have traveled with my 2, this summer we were gone for 3 weeks (international flight from Europe to US and visited 5 states) with a 4.5yo and a 20 mo. We took our Maclaren and that was it. My older LO walked everywhere (but he's used to it since we live in a city with no car). We baggage checked both car seats.

@Foodnerd81: I totally would want to! Either that, or sell the B-Ready and B-Agile (we're planning on selling the latter anyway, since we have the umbrella now).

I think we might get more use out of the S&S than we do with the B-Ready now. I loved it when H was younger, but it's so bulky, and we usually keep the umbrella in the trunk, since it's so much more lightweight.

I have never travelled with two kids, so I don't have advice on what works best, but my first thought was could you resell the sit and stand after the trip? If you get it for under $100 you could probably sell it again for about the same. Then again I've heard from friends that it sucks to push it with two kids (never tried it myself).

Interested to see what people say since we will eventually be in the same boat.

So, I am starting to go over a list of things needed for our cross-country flight this summer. I already learned how to attach the convertible car seat to rolling luggage, which seats we should pick on the plane, how to install a car seat on the plane, and other random tidbits. However, I do have a question about getting through the airport (and I guess, getting around after we reach our destination).

Harrison will be 2 and Char will be nearly 4 when we go to DC (from LA). We will most likely be flying out of LAX and into Dulles or Reagan, which are all decent-sized airports. We are bringing a stroller for H, but not sure if we should buy a sit-and-stand (most likely the Joovy Caboose Ultralight) for both kids.

I have an Ergo, but H is a big guy (he is almost 30 lbs and not 2 yet). I could wear him as another option, but I don't think that either one of us would be very comfortable with that option beyond the (air-conditioned) airports-- we'll be in hot and humid DC/OBX for two weeks. I could also just put H in the stroller and make C walk through the airport, and in DC and the beach... but I have a feeling I might end up carrying her when she gets "tired" (which is usually after 30 mins of walking).

I've found the S&S we would want on Craigslist for under $100. We have a Britax B-Ready, but I do NOT want to travel with that giant beast. We also have a B-Agile and maybe we should just bring two strollers (the Maclaren and the B-Agile?) but that seems ridiculous. Then again, buying yet another stroller sounds ridiculous, as well.

Any bees with 2+ kids traveling experience-- I would love to hear your feedback!
