Thanks for the feedback!

@josina: There are probably 20 people spread out around the office, but I only interact with about 5 of them while I am there.

@karenbme: The original idea was to get up to speed with a few tasks that they might need remote help with in the event that they couldn't go into the office, but that hasn't materialized.

@Bluemasonjar: I am doing my best to practice social distancing while I am there, wash my hands frequently, not touch my face, etc. They are doing a lot to keep the place clean (frequently wiping down surfaces, new pens for everyone who comes in) so it feels like reasonable precautions are being taken.

As it is working out, it looks like my schedule won't allow me to help out beyond today and tomorrow. I'll feel better that I helped out when I could, but also that I am able to stay at home after that.

My mom works in title insurance and even though the state enacted shelter in place yesterday she is still being required to go into the office.

If you go in the rest of the week I would limit contact and distance yourself as much as possible. I personally would be tempted to help out while you can but it certainly comes with some risk.

Is there a way you can help out remotely? If it's paperwork what can you print at home, complete, scan and email (or dropbox if it's sensitive)? There's gotta be a middle ground between exposing yourself/your family and walking away from your dad when he needs help.

How many people are you coming into contact with at his office? If it's just you and him, I would try to help.

I am a teacher and DH is a grad student and a coach, so we are both home for the duration of COVID-19-related shut-downs. We were both home with DD (4) for most of last week.

For a few hours on Thursday and most of the day on Friday, I went in to my father's office to help him catch up on work. He owns a real estate law firm and title company, and business is booming with refis.

My parents have done a lot for our family, and I would help my father in any way that I can. That said, I feel a bit uncomfortable going in to his office (even with frequent handwashing, etc.) when I am not strictly required to. Our state has just enacted a prohibition against non-essential work, but loan processing qualifies as essential in the financial sector.

By the end of the week, my job as a remote teacher and SAH parent will mean that I am too busy to help my father. AITA if I go to work in his office for the rest of this week?
