I don't drink often to start with, so it wasn't a huge sacrifice to abstain.

As a side note, my midwife said that there's no point worrying about alcohol consumption before you find out you're pregnant, a baby that new isn't getting nutrition through the placenta yet.

I definitely had sips from my husband's glass about once or twice a week late in the 2nd trimester. Then I had a tiny glass maybe once every two weeks or so late in the 3rd trimester. I had a small glass of wine the night I went into labor. I'd like to think it helped my body relax so it could do what it needed to do :)

@BabyBoecksMom: lol, I drank my wine really, really slowly as well! One small glass usually took me an hour and a half to two hours to drink...with about five glasses of water consumed during that period as well! DH couldn't believe someone could stretch out a glass that long but I liked knowing my body was being given time to process the alcohol rather than getting it in one big hit.

I went to a concert this past weekend and was definitely wishing I was drinking a cold beer rather than my lemonade :(

As someone who would have a glass or two of wine every night with dinner and go out and drink almost every weekend (whether visiting friends, happy hour, girls night, etc) before I was pregnant, it was a big transition to not drinking at all.

Once I got pregnant, abstained until late in my 2nd trimester. And then I would have a 1/2 glass about every other week, if that.... and drank it really really slowly.

I had 2 oz of wine of vacation towards the end of the 2nd trimester and this past weekend I had 3 oz. I was really upset last week about a work situation and letting it get me super depressed and miserable. That 3 oz did wonders to calm me down. I swear it was the best wine I have ever had in my life! Go for it. Sometimes you just need something to take the edge off.

I'm not PG yet but my step father is an OBGYN and I have asked him about this many times. He is pretty old school and definitely of the "take care of yourself and you'll have a healthy baby" mentality. His advice is to abstain completely in the first Tri when the really important development is happening. Beyond that he said 1 drink every week or so is perfectly fine and will not harm the baby. He is pretty vocal about wine and beer being better choices and that 1 is absolutely the most for 1 day.

My sister had probably 15 drinks during her pregnancy (1 drink at a time) and everything turned out fine. While 15 may be a little too much for me - I'd say once I'm 5-6 mos along I'll likely have a glass of wine per month or so since I love it so much.

However, things like m/c scares or any trouble in my future pregnancy could complete change this thought process!

I loved to drink pre-pregnancy. Loved it. Once I got my positive stick, though, I quit completely. The most alcohol I had while pregnant was church wine or the wine/beer I put in meals.

during the first trimester i sniffed some wine--i wanted to see whether i still wanted it, and the smell of alcohol was overpowering and distasteful so i abstained (before pregnancy, i would drink a glass or so every night). after the first trimester, i've had a few tiny sips, but the alcohol is still too strong for me and i find i don't enjoy it as much because psychologically i'm a little scared.

I have a glass of wine or beer once a week, starting after the first tri. My doctor said it was totally fine as did my doula from last time around. To me it's not a question of "worth it" or not. I am not convinced a single baby has been born, ever, with any problems due to a weekly glass of wine. The evidence just isn't there.... From what I know, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome comes from alcoholics and binge drinkers!

I've had a few sips here and there. My birthday was at 18 weeks so I had a half a shot glass of beer and couldn't even finish it. Mostly I'm fine just smelling my husband's drink but if it's one of my favorites I'll take a sip.
I was planning to have a glass of red wine during early labor but now that I'm getting induced I don't think that will happen :( I think both my childbirth instructor and midwife actually recommended the wine during early labor, so if that's what you want...go for it!

Surprisingly, I have not craved alcohol during this pg like I thought I would (pre-pg, I loved to have a glass of wine or a cocktail!) This weekend (at 38+ weeks), I stared long and hard at the Coronas we have in the fridge, and seriously considered having one. DH was at the office (so I was alone), and I was having big time anxiety about my last week in the office this week (multiple depositions, a hearing, and several filing deadlines, *augh*). I have also been having tons of trouble sleeping, so much so that I seriously shouldn't even call it sleeping or going to bed anymore, but I digress . . .

I couldn't do it. I just felt too guilty. Maybe if my doc had told me it was okay (or encouraged me to do so), I would have felt differently.

I abstained from all alcohol for the first tri, but after that, I had the odd glass of wine here and there. We went on our babymoon at 15 weeks and I had about 5 glasses of wine over that two week period, but after that, I only had about a glass of wine maybe once per month, if that.

At 37 weeks, I really wanted a glass of red as it had been a few weeks, but as soon as I took that first sip, it gave me such terrible heartburn that I wasn't able to drink any more. I won't lie, I was a bit sad....

Another non-drinker here, so it wasn't an issue for me to give it up. However I've given up every risky or potentially risky food for LO despite how badly I might want to eat it so if I did drink I would've given that up too regardless.

One thing that always confuses me are women who freak out about eating cold-cuts or soft cheese but then run out and drink wine- both are things that carry small risks of big problems. I'm not judging them for drinking- their baby, their decision, but I just always find it ironic when certain preggos get on like that.

I'm not a big drinker, but for some reason a glass of rose or white has sounded so good the last few weeks. I haven't had any yet, but I'm tempted. We went to a wedding around 10 weeks and I had about 4 sips of champagne, nobody said anything even though they all knew I was preggo. I'm tempted to ask Hubs if he'd be okay with me having a glass, especially since we tend to drink wine with less than 12% alcohol anyway.

Now that I'm in the 2nd trimester, I've had a several half glasses of wine and maybe a half a beer over the last 2 months. I usually mix it with sparkling water so it lasts longer and I don't drink it quickly on accident. So I say go for it! You're at the end now and everything I've read said it can't hurt! Good luck momma.
