I think it gives you the option of “alexa” as a shortened version but you aren’t stuck with it so it is more versatile. My niece has this name but has always been called Allie. Plus I felt Alexandra was just too formal or girly for us. </p> <p>It turns out Alex is pretty flexible as well. She could choose Lexi or Allie for nicknames. </p> <p>I've surprised myself by calling her a double name a lot of the time--her middle name is also short, but more feminine. It's a super cute double name. </p> <p>I also really like that she could remain gender neutral on a resume, if that helps. A few people didn't understand that her name wasn't 'Alexis' when she was a baby, but if anything the Amazon thing has helped people recognize it as a valid name. </p> <p>I though it was going to be a problem when it first came out (we'd already picked the name) but it has been a total non-issue so far. We'll see if that continues through middle school.</p> <p>And our Alexa is super entertained that there's another Alexa.
