Just returned from T&C vacation - stayed at Villa Renaissance right in the heart of Grace Bay. It was awesome -- primarily because we were right across the street from the main section of town. Nice pool, beach was amazing (chairs and umbrellas at both). Has a little bar at the pool for beverages, but no food service. Daily maid service. Washer, dryer, kitchen. We ate breakfast in every day -- lunch some days. Sometimes walked to town for lunch. Went out for dinner most nights (take out pizza one night and take out Indian another). My parents came with and watched the kids 3 nights so we had adult dinners out. Literally could walk everywhere we wanted, did take a cab to dinner one night and walked home. We did not rent a car. 7 min walk from the Grocery Store -- no biggie.

My two cents is that Beaches is fabulous for older kids but probably not worth it for a toddler. We looked into it, but it was 15K for the week for a family of 5.... then were gonna do a day pass there so my older kids could enjoy the slides - but it would have been 500$ per adult and 200$ per kid just for the day haha! We did do an island adventure excursion which was really awesome. Seven Stars was right next door to us. It's beautiful and we did eat dinner there one night. Ritz is being built next door right now too. Happy to answer any questions and give specific restaurant recommendations if you go that route.

@Amorini: so we stay near turtle cove; it’s at the southnernmost end of grace bay. Near the southernmost end of grace bay. There are a few restaurants there and the beach is great. It is also where some great snorkel reefs are
Located. We do rent a car. The supermarket on the main highway is great and about a 10 min drive. We normally cook but occasionally we’d grt jerk or local stuff to go, or walk to a restaurant in the marina. There are lots of good restaurants on grace bay (good, not great). There is also a smaller location of the big grocery store that is walkable from the big resorts on grace bay
We rent from TC Villas. They have lots of different price points and villa sizes and we’ve been happy with their customer service. We’ve rented conch pearl several times.

Can I just say THANK YOU all for responding?! I kinda' gave up on my post. Just when I feel like I'm not having any more fun with the vacation planning, I see all of these replies!!

Also...I've expanded the search to Riviera Maya (hello, price difference!)...and possibly more places after reading here.

@JennyPenny: Thanks! There aren't Club Meds that are family friendly in the locations I've searched so far, but I will take note of this!

@SweetiePie: Oh, I like the sound of Nizuc. I'll check out Atlantis, too!

@Littlebit7: Thank you SO much for your pro tip. If you stay at a villa, do you rent a car?

I'm so not sold on Beaches, despite how much it's talked up, mostly because I hear so-so things about the food. If we're going all-inclusive, we need most of the restaurants to have super good reviews! Seven Stars is on the list, if go the TC resort route.

@Andrea: Would love to know your villa recommendation, if you don't mind walling me. As I said, I think Beaches is not gonna' happen. And I've read some great around-town restaurants, so if we had a kitchen, I could see doing breakfast and lunch in and doing dinners out.

@looch: You are right that the dining experience is not my primary concern (ambience etc.) given we are eating with a toddler. It's actually DH who is the big PITA when the food is mediocre. haha. I am off to check out Atlantis!!!!

@Amorini: We love Atlantis. The flight for us is super easy (often and direct), so while I'd love to go to T&C, Bahamas wins for ease for us.

We have yet to use the kid's club, my son prefers to hang with us, but he's asked to go back. I wouldn't say that the food is the best I've ever eaten, but there is enough variety that I am satisfied while on vacation, especially when eating with a child.

@Andrea: can you wall me which villa you rent? We’ve been going to the same one for several years and it needs some updates, yet the rates keep increasing. We are looking for some new options!

People really rave about Beaches, but we always rent a villa in T&C, too (using HomeAway). We don’t want to be stuck in a resort and haven’t been interested in using a kids club. If you want a resort, I don’t think you can go wrong with Beaches though. Everyone I know goes back year after year!

From my mom group I’ve really heard raves about beaches.
Seven stars is amazing but not all inclusive I don’t think
We’ve stayed at point Grace but it’s not all inclusive although they do have kitchens. It’s small but family friendly. They don’t have a shallow pool though.
We’ve been several times to TC and we rent a villa there now.
Anything on grace bay will have a nice beach
But the big resorts like seven stars have the most to offer.
My pro tip: if you can swing it try to avoid arriving and departing on a sat/Sunday. The airport is a freaking shit show. Disaster. Awful. Totally undoes your relaxation after a lovely week.

Eta: we typically go with family. If I wasn’t going with family I’d be all over the kids club stuff. I need my kid-free time on vacation.

its not all-inclusive but Nizuc in the Cancun area is phenomenal. It’s expensive but worth every cent. Kids club for rainy days or when they just need a break from the sun (you can go in with them for free). No kids pool but the whole resort in general is kid friendly. Food is top notch. Beach is very nice.

I also hear good things about Atlantis but have never been.

Nickelodeon resort in Punta Cana is all-inclusive and supposed to be great.

I've never been but my SIL and her husband LOVE Club Med. They have 4 with 4 years between the oldest and youngest, and have been going to Club Meds for a while. Could be worth looking into. I know some are specifically family friendly so you'd want to check for that.

ETA their youngest is currently 3, so they've gone many times with a child around your son's age.

Anyone? What about just all-inclusive resorts period and kid amenities? Are they mostly geared toward bigger kids?

I found some posts about bees traveling to Turks & Caicos not along so just thought I would tailor my post. Can't edit it now, but I'm up for any general thoughts about the value of resort kid amenities at the toddler stage. (I've only ever been to an adult-only resorts, so I don't even know what they're like!)

DS will be 21 months when we go so I think it's going to be a lot of beach, pool, meals, naps and some in-town adventures. Everyone raves about Beaches, but is it really worth it for us? Are there other great resorts that would work equally well with a little toddler? I am doing a lot of googling and reading TripAdvisor reviews, but I trust the bees! Any experiences to share?

We definitely want:
- TC and Provo for location
- all-inclusive
- amazing food
- soft sandy, quiet and shallow beaches
- tot-friendly pools, wading areas, play areas
- tot-friendly restaurants
- excellent overall service and a high quality resort

We aren't really into or needing:
- babysitting and nannies
- adventures for older kids (snorkeling, wave pools and stuff for bigger kids)

Beaches' amenities do sound amazing for older kids (camping and ponies on the beach!), but I'm not sure we need all of that at that right now. On the other hand, we could return year after year and grow into it. Just don't want to get sold on the hype!
