I would just go ahead with your lunch as planned and substitute with sunbutter. It taste similar, and it's handy to have when eating out in public. Just let the family know in advance to not be concerned.

My kids have a peanut and tree nut allergy, and I cringe when I see other families eating a peanut butter sandwich. Peanut butter is generally sticky, and I don't trust kids with their hands. Sure, it would be nice if everyone washed their hands thoroughly, but that's not always the case.

It may be too late to run out and get these, but the Pea B & Jelly uncrustables by Annies (I found them at Target) are GOOD! And it counts as a veggie, right?!

Like @yoursilverlining: , my kids accept Sunbutter as peanut butter in nut-free situations.

I'd pack bento-style...cheese cubes, pepperoni, crackers, some cut fruit, carrot sticks, hummus....and plenty of snacks, like you already mentioned. I doubt the kids will mind the repeats of a few of the items (if they have them for lunch and again for snack).

If you're still keen on PB&J you could do sunbutter & jelly.

LO and I went on a picnic a few weekends ago and I brought rolls and chicken salad, which was delicious and easy and something LO will actually eat. I also brought pasta salad for LO and a crunchy veggie slaw for me.

What about some kind of meat & cheese sandwich. I'd do turkey & cheese or something similar.

What about hummus, veggie, and feta wraps? I've been eating that for lunch this summer and it is so delicious. I put red peppers in mine. Are you taking a refrigerated lunch box?

We are going to the zoo tomorrow with some friends who's daughter is allergic to all nuts. We were going to take peanut butter sandwiches as our meal...that's out. What protein or main course would you take for your picnic meal? We are taking fruit, chips, cheese and cookies as the other parts of the meal. This meal is just for us, they are bringing their own food because her allergies are so bad, cross-contamination is a problem. It just can't have nuts in it.
