@looch: I just called my daughter's insurance and it's not covered. Next I'm going try and see if I can use my HSA account.

I'm sure if it was covered you can file a claim.

@regberadaisy: We didn't explore it, but that is a fantastic suggestion. I wonder if we could get reimbursed and if they require a diagnosis.

DS has been on Claritin since he was about 6 months old (we also tried zyrtec and allegra but they weren't as effective for him) per his pediatrician's recommendation. He has had a saline rinse on his nose twice a day from about 4 months to well over a year old (thank God for the nosefreida). We deal with a lot of allergies and when they are that young, you don't have too many options to control it. Once he got tubes in his ears (8 months) things did improve but he still had the allergies. At finally 2 years old we were able to give him singular and it has made a world of difference. He was allergy tested (both the skin pricks and blood draws) around 18 months by a pediatric allergist based on his dentist's recommendation (lazy mouth due to so much congestion and it was affecting his mouth shape and muscles) and ultimately we know a few things but nothing is totally conclusive until they grow up a little more but it did tell us to keep him away from cats (luckily we don't have any) and he is allergic to dusts and molds (just like DH and me) so we clean a lot. Unfortunately, if it really is an allergy, it might require medication.

@regberadaisy: I saw your other thread. Hopefully you get some good suggestions that we can both try out.

DH is very much a "take a pill if you're sick" type person, but I definitely am not. I got him to agree to not fill the prescription until we see the allergist, but I'm dragging my feet making an appt. because I'm really not sure I'm comfortable with it. He has his 1 year appt. in two weeks, so I think I'll hold off and talk to his pediatrician then.

My son suffers from allergies (especially seasonal pollen) and the issue that we have is that they also flare up his asthmatic condition. I say condition because the doctor is hesitant to call it full on asthma at the moment until we see how things develop.

The only thing that gives my son any relief is a nightly nebulizer treatment of albuterol and pulmicort. Another thing you can try to give some relief is to run an air purifier, stop using a humidifier and give a bath every night. Sometimes, the allergens get trapped in their hair and when they sweat, it runs down to their faces and irritates their eyes.

We're kinda there right now. M has had a constant runny nose & cough that is worse at night and in the mornings. We're 90% sure it's allergies, just don't know if it's pets or seasonal allergy. :( My husband has both and my family has seasonal allergies.

My ped is not a supporter of allergy testing or meds at such a young age. I brought up the question at her one year bc she's just so miserable to see what our options are!

Currently seeking HB help on natural antihistamine remedies:

E has pretty much had a constant runny nose and congestion for several months. He just got over bronchitis and a double ear infection and the PA at his pediatrician seems to think it is allergy related.

DH and I have both had respiratory health issues these last few month as well, but neither of us have allergies. I think this is more likely related to daycare germs, especially since 4 other kids in E's class had respiratory and ear infections around the same time.

She prescribed a daily allergy med, but I'm really hesitant to give my almost one year old meds every day for an allergy that may or may not exist. She referred us to an allergy specialist, but the thought of allergy testing on such a little kid also does not appeal to me, but I also don't want him to suffer if it is an allergy.

Has anyone had allergy testing done on their LO, or give them allergy meds on a regular basis?
