@tororojo: why save it for the winter? I'm hoping to keep at least one session through the winter and some of it is getting old anyway, but I'm curious as to why you suggest that?

@Mrs Green Grass: @hilsy85: @wonderstruck: oh I should have specified- if she doesn't want to take a bottle, fine, I just figured since she will only be having BM a handful of times I wouldn't bother switching to the BM in a cup. But if she doesn't want the bottle at all easier for me I guess.

@hilsy85: yeah that's what I'm planning to do- leave something I know she will eat, and the frozen BM in a straw cup but not worry if she takes it.

Thanks for all the responses. I guess I'm done with bottles until next baby. Whoa. And pumping only for relieving discomfort.

my LO took a bottle no problem for the first year of his life when we hardly needed him to because i was on mat leave. Then i went back to work and he refused! Our nanny just kept trying everyday and he eventually started back on it. same with the transition from pumped to WCM. I am still nursing morning and night at 22 months.

I agree that she's probably getting enough milk and calories one way or another and wouldn't worry about getting her to take it when you're gone. Or push the bottle. Suggestion- if you're planning to wean before too long you may want to save the frozen stash for when your LO gets sick this winter! We weaned at 14 months but I had a couple of bags left in the freezer and they came in handy a little later on.

It sounds like she is getting plenty of milk, so I wouldn't worry about the amount. But it's definitely the right time to transition to a sippy or straw cup.

We dropped bottles at about a year and my 15 month old now refuses them. I tried leaving one for a night we were away recently and she wouldn't take it. So if I were you I'd just do the BM in a straw cup at this point.

Yup, we went straight to straw cups. Stopped nursing around 14-15 months. He took BM in straw cups until the frozen stash was used up.

@Foodnerd81: I would definitely NOT push the bottle at that age! Honestly, when I left LO at bedtime, I just made sure I left a dinner that I knew he would eat a lot of, and didn't worry about it. He never really started drinking anything other than water out of a cup until he was 18 months, and he had no trouble going to sleep for someone else without any sort of breastmilk or milk substitute. If you have it, you might as well leave it, but I wouldn't stress if she doesn't drink it.

We dropped cups at 12 months and went straight to straw cups. Keep trying some other types of cups!

@Foodnerd81: K is the same. She won't take a bottle, and won't drink milk unless she's nursing. She'll power back water in a straw cup though.
I haven't left her for bedtime yet, but I'll need to in a few weeks for a wedding. I'm thinking if she has a big enough dinner and lots of water, she shouldn't need to nurse before bed.

We did a straw cup with BM after a year until it was used up. Then we switched to almond milk. This replaced nursing sessions until we weaned and now she just gets milk breakfast, midday and bedtime.

Well I definitely wouldn't start trying to get her to take the bottle at 14 months - that's just setting yourself up for the headache of weaning her from the bottle when she's already at the age where they recommend transitioning to a sippy or straw cup! If sh likes the straw cup I would stick with whole milk in that. Even if she's not drinking a ton, it's better than nothing.

@sorrycharlie: she will sip the cows milk, just doesn't drink a lot, but she drinks plenty of water. It could be the cup actually- she likes the water cup best I think. If I tried puttif the milk in there (breast or cows) she might drink more, but it spills more.

my LO never took a bottle after she was a newborn! pain in my rear ;)

but seriously, she also refused many, many times to touch WCM. I tried for close to a year..even occasionally will try now, she'll only have it with cereal. I sometimes make her oatmeal with it to sneak it in. My ped said as long as she was having enough intake of fluids, cheese and yogurt she would be okay. Some kids just don't like milk.

All that to say, I probably wouldn't worry if she's eating/drinking enough of other things!

Also- I'm less worried about her missing the day time sessions and if I'll be gone with just have the sitter give her an extra snack and cup of cows milk, right?

I'm thinking since I have the frozen breastmilk I'll leave that in a straw cup next time.

Sorry, another breastfeeding past a year question from me!

C is almost 14 months, nurses 4 times a day generall. She hardly ever has bottles since I SAH and it's easier to nurse than pump and bottle feed. However she used to take pumped milk in a bottle no problem. The last couple of times I tried she just seems pretty uninterested in it- once when we were in a rush so I was giving her the bottle on the go, and once when I actually went out and the baby sitter tried giving it to her.

I know she is starting to get most of her calories through food now, and she drinks some whole milk in a straw cup- not a lot but I don't worry since she is breastfeeding still.

I'm wondering if I should be trying to give her frozen milk in a straw cup, or cows milk, before bed when she is with a babysitter, to replace her bedtime nursing, or just let it be and make sure she has a good dinner and maybe a snack close to bedtime? It's certainly easier to not have to worry about pumped milk, but I have some in the freezer so it's no big deal either way.

What works for you guys?
