@Cherrybee: That is why I didn't want to take it! We have a very low sugar diet and my midwife warned me the results could be inaccurate and I knew it would make me feel like crap. Taking my blood sugar for two weeks got old, but I still think it was worth it.

I wish I'd known you could opt to do that!! I've got my test on Saturday and I'm really anxious about it - I don't really eat sugar and, when I do, it makes me feel so ill. I'm not hopeful I'll pass the test.

@Ash: I used to love jelly beans! If they had offered me jelly beans or cake I might have used it as an excuse to indulge!

@tlcbaby: My midwife said if you don't want to do the drink, they give you 11 jellybeans to eat. She says both options are comparable to a piece of chocolate cake. Which I'd rather have!

I have heard people talk about the jelly beans and my midwife said they are working on some kind of standard jelly bean people can eat instead of the drink. The idea of prescription jelly beans makes me laugh. :)

@hergreenapples: Thanks for posting that link. I agree with you that I really want to know if I have GD and didn't feel comfortable just forgoing the testing altogether.

I had RnY surgery and dump on sugar so I requested they just test my fasting blood sugar (Ac1? Don't quote me on that). Ended up passing and avoided that sugar drink which is what I wanted.

That's great! For my glucose screening, my midwives asked me to eat a specific breakfast (there were options for multiple diets, I chose scrambled tofu, toast, apple juice, and almond milk), and then tested my blood an hour later. So much better for baby and me.

I posted a similar (but not exactly the same) thread recently that may be of interest: http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/pregnant-ladiesmoms-who-eat-paleoprimal

I did end up doing the screen (and passing by a LOT), but wouldn't do it again. I just don't like the idea of sugar-bombing my body and baby that way.

If anyone is interested in an alternative to the oral glucose screen, I spoke with my midwife and they are allowing me to test my blood sugar four times daily over the next two weeks.

Yes, it takes a couple weeks of dedication, but we follow a paleo diet and I had concerns that the results would be inaccurate and I wasn't too excited about that drink. :)

The testing supplies were totally covered by my insurance, I paid $25 for the test strips, but I had a coupon for a $20 gift card whe you fill a new prescription so it pretty much evened out.

I am actually kind of excited to learn more about how my blood sugar fluctuates in response to different foods because I really have never known anything about it. Plus there is no waiting for the results. Even after one day, I feel pretty confident I do not have gestational diabetes because all of my levels have been normal.
