We ordered the love to dream one that several of you mentioned. In the mean time we are using our halo sleep sacks and swaddling him arms up as best as we can. Thanks for all of your suggestions!!

We loved the woombie (or similar products) because he could keep his hands up but still be swaddled and it was just so much easier than other swaddles. He would hate it at first but always calmed down in a minute or two.

LO2 hated the swaddle, and I was desperate. Tried the Merlin Magic Sleepsuit, and it was not magical for us. I just accepted that swaddling was not for LO and kept him in a sleep sack.

We used the miracle blanket because LO1 hated the swaddle only if there was wiggle room. The miracle blanket did such a good job both babies would stay wrapped all night because they couldn't really strain against anything. Then we switched to the merlin which would totally prevent the startling if your LO is big enough to fit in one!

Love to dream hands up swaddle! DS was a swaddle ninja and could break out of anything and he seemed to hate the regular swaddle. The love to dream swaddle was a life saver and they make a transition swaddle with zippers so when it's time to start swaddle weaning you can use that and have one arm out. We loved it!

Our LO hated the swaddle for probably the first month. We kept trying and eventually it started working. It was one of those times where I would silently say to her "ok I know you think you hate this and I'm really sorry to wrap you up like a burrito but I really truly believe this is BEST for you!!" (Shocker....I was right)
I'd say don't give up on the swaddle yet. We used summer infant when she was tiny and then halo later on.

Love to Dream hands up swaddle! It's great.
Looks like @mfa_lady: didn't have much luck with it but it worked for us. So...50/50? 😉 Worth a shot if you are desperate.
And amen to the Merlin, @mfa_lady: 👏🏼 So glad they worked for you! 😘

I liked the zip up pouches because they could get their arms up by their face. Once they outgrew those I really loved the love to dream! :)

We had the same issue and swaddled with arms out for about 3 weeks, and then we started swaddling him with arms in. He hates the first 1-2 minutes, and then settles right down once we start bouncing him. He also can nurse calmly in the swaddle and wake up peacefully for about 5 minutes in the RnP before he starts to struggle/cry.

Also, the woombie allows for more arm movement within the swaddle.

My DD also hated being swaddled from the get-go. We tried a lot of things in an attempt to keep her happy, haha! Our first go (after a million "regular" types of swaddles) was this: http://www.amazon.com/Love-Dream-Swaddle-Original--Gray-/dp/B0081GJ038/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1459040687&sr=1-1&keywords=swaddle+up

She did seem to like having her arms up, but it didn't really improve her sleep that much. What really helped us was moving her to a Merlin sleep suit at about 12 weeks. That thing was a miracle.

My son is 2 weeks old and has decided he does NOT like being swaddled. We use halo sleep sacks and he strains hard to release his arms, complete with frustrated noises! We gave tried leaving his arms out (we did this with our daughter and she did great), but he startles hi elf awake.

Anyone have other suggestions??
