I usually freeze large amounts of food in plastic containers, like those ziploc or glad containers. I'll reheat it in the container to the point where it can slip out of the container, then continue heating in a regular bowl.

Is storing food in plastic harmful too? I store our food in ziploc bags as well. But I'll reheat it in glass containers.

If you get a foodsaver, they have those tupperwear containers that you can vacuum seal.

@chopsuey119: Yeah, glass will break if it goes from cold to hot too quickly. Glass expands when heated. Also, glass is a bad conductor of heat. If you use glass containers for freezing, make sure they are heat- resistant, like those Pyrex containers.

we would need so much glass tupperware though.

and yes heating up cold glass too quickly causes it to break!

@Andrea: Do you ever microwave the glass? (after everything's thawed out?)
I had a glass tupperware in the fridge, took it out and microwaved it. 50 seconds into heating, the glass broke! I was so shocked!

I don't think it is necessarily space saving but I freeze food in glass containers.

I don't know if it's more "Eco-friendly" but we use vacuum sealers as well. We use ziploc bags for things that we know we will eat quick. Vacuum sealers for things that will be staying in the freezer longer because it protects against freezer burn better.

I really try to limit our use of plastic, especially when it comes to food. But is there any more eco-friendly/space saving way to freeze food other than ziploc bags?

Freezing food saves so much time for me, and I just bought an extra freezer since ours is on the bottom of our fridge and way too small.
