I would ask the teacher and say does he really finish everything or is there a little bit left in each bottle

It sounds like the teachers are seriously "rounding up" in the reports. I wouldn't be hesitant to bring it up, but I would try to approach it as something you're concerned about that maybe they can help you on, as a partnership rather than in an accusatory way. Ex: "I've noticed DS is eating a lot lately and it has me a little worried because he's so small and still wanting to eat more when he comes home. Have you noticed anything? Is it possible you could help me track a little more specifically how much he's eating so I'll be able to talk to his doctor?" Maybe even a day or two of them writing the oz down could help..

I'd suggest asking for clarification from the daycare.

DS is just 7m and weighs 19lbs 10oz. He has his last bottle and solids at 4PM and and usually starving when we sit down to dinner around 6:30. He gets 11-12oz of pumped breastmilk during the day, nurses first thing in the morning and after dinner/bedtime plus at least once a night. It doesn't sound too crazy to me.

Seems like a lot. Can you send significantly more or less and see if there is any difference... if they even notice? It's a little less confrontational I guess....

I have noticed that at daycare LO eats and drinks WAY more than when he's home. I'm not sure if he is just hungrier there are they are not 100% truthful about what goes down.

I don't think you're being crazy at all. It's something you need to know. If I was in your situation, I would for sure ask just so you can accurately keep track of how he eats on a daily basis. I'd just explain that when he's home with you he doesn't seem to eat that much, and you want to make sure you're feeding him consistently or something like that.

29 oz plus lots of solids is on the highish end, but i don't think it's totally unreasonable! :) my LO (same age as yours) drinks about 26oz formula plus solids too :) about the same! maybe he is just really thirsty? :)

about the day care providers not writing everything down accurately -- i would definitely be concerned, too! i hope it works out and you find out what is going on! :)

@winniebee: heehee to the tapeworm.

Wagon Jr.'s teachers usually pour out his lunch onto a paper plate when we do his pasta ham cheese combo, and they've told us that when he leaves a bit they don't pack it back up. But if he left a lot, they do. I would definitely talk to the director! Even if you don't feel comfortable talking to his teachers, I'm sure the director would be happy to be the liason between you and his teachers.

Well, E is 13 months, 17lbs and eats as much food as I do every day. Seriously. She has ~1/3c egg frittata, a piece of toast with peanut butter, 1/2 bananna and about 4oz of green smoothie for breakfast. She has a 4oz apple sauce for snack. For the rest of the day (until 6pm pickup) she eats 2 meatballs, 2 strawberries, 5 blueberries, a hard boiled egg, 3oz yogurt, 1/3c peas and then some puffs to snack on. Plus she drinks the rest of her smoothie and then almond milk/water all day long. By 6pm she is starving for dinner. My girl just loves to eat!

@mrs. wagon: He is constantly on the move and looooves solids. But I feel like he has a tape worm or somethign!

They used to send the food home that he didn't eat. Now I feel like they don't. Or, maybe it's that he's throwing it on the floor so they obviously don't pick it up and pack it to bring home?

@winniebee: I have found with the solids they have not been very good with filling the sheets. They write down 100% but then they tell daddy that she didn't eat a or b. Now they are better about breaking down the foods and writing approx. percentages.

I would mention to the lead teacher your concerns!

That's a lot of formula + food!! M only gets 15oz of milk at daycare and nurses 2-3x (probably gets 10oz from those sessions). I think I would bring it up with them. I'd hate to think they are wasting food if he's not actually eating it.

If M leaves an ounce of milk behind, they toss it. If she leaves food behind, they keep it for me.

@mrs. wagon: I can. There is a bit of a language barriers with the teachers and I don't want to seem accusatory. I could also start sending bigger bottles during the day, but I'm not sure if he would drink more. Yesterday he at 29 oz of formula plus all that frigging food!

Can you talk to the director with your concerns? Or a main teacher? You definitely don't sound crazy to me... either he's super hungry at night or maybe they are lying or not keeping very careful track about what he eats and doesn't eat.

I raised similar concerns when Wagon Jr. started dropping his nap, and his teachers didn't hesitate to start giving me a daily report. I think they might see me as a little high maintenance but it's worth it for me, to have the peace of mind that I have accurate information about what happened that day with his sleep.

Some kids need more food more often. My son is older but at 23 months eats before school, breakfast at school, lunch, snack, and cries if we don't have food when we pick him up at 4:30. He gets a kids drink between meals and snacks and goes through 8 ounces of that a day. Then has dinner and a snack before bed. He still nurses twice and he eats almost everything. He just burns it that fast and needs less more often.

According to my son's daycare sheets, he eats "all" of most everything I send. Sometimes "some." They always write down he finishes "all" of his bottles even though sometimes they send the bottle home w/ an ounce left. That's not the weird part.

My son consumes 20 oz of milk (15 oz at daycare, 5 oz bottle when he wakes first thing) plus oatmeal/fruit, snacks (two separate snacks - usually one snack of puffs/melts and another of pieces of fruit), 4 oz of puree, AND a BLW lunch (three items offered) all before getting home at 6. According to daycare, his last bottle is at 3/3:30 and he has the 4 oz puree and snack around 4. But when he gets home at 6 he pitches a fit lately until he gets another bottle. Yesterday, he ate another 4 oz at 6. Then a piece of pizza for dinner at 6;15. Then another 5 oz before bed at 7:30.

Here's the crazy question. Do you think daycare is lying about how much he is eating? He moved rooms about a month ago and has new teachers that I don't know as well. I feel like that is just an awful lot of food for my 11 month old to be eating. He is a peanut - like 17 1/2 lbs! Why does he act starving at 6 if he's eaten a bottle plus 4 oz of puree at 3 and 4? When he is at home, he eats about the same, but doesn't have that 6 pm bottle and usually doesn't have the 4 oz jar of puree at home, either.

What the heck is going on? (and thanks for reading this long post).
