Soo here I am again extremely frustrated and feeling badly for my DS!!!

DH took him to the ENT today and they removed the one that was "pushing out" and they said the other one is clogged.... soooooo he has to go back under and get a whole new set of tubes next Friday!! I am so mad. What a crock... exactly 3 mos after having them put in he already has issues.

I didn't get to ask DH many questions so I will tonight.. like is this common? will it just happen again? are we paying for a whole second surgery/anesthesia etc?

All I got from DH was that we will have more frequent ENT visits to make sure they don't clog again.....??? but somehow that isn't sitting well with me...

@Ajsmommy: Irrational is relative, as well as, subjective. 😉 I went through the SAME thing with DD when she was 18 mos old (* now nearly 11 and may need a NEW set in BOTH ears!) with one tube in her left ear. The darn thing fell out 2 mos after insertion! I spoke with her pediatrician and the ENT and both stated the rapid growth of the ear canal from 6 mos to 3 years can allow for tubes to fall out! I pushed and pushed for a reinsertion surgery (new tube) and, after 6 mos, I was granted a free surgery for reinserting a new tube. I went through her pediatrician, the ENT, and insurance... and, maybe, did a little bullying (which is SOOOOOO unlike me since I loathe confrontation ... BUT IT WAS FOR MY BABY and NO ONE gets between my baby, me, and her health! 😉). The insurance covered it as a faulty procedure and, while I hated to see DD go through the process ALL over again, the 2nd one lasted over a year!
As for you, I would push for them to fix it without charging as improper insertion could have been the cause for DS' turned tube!

@Ajsmommy: It would really bother me that they incorrectly told you the tube had fallen out when it was still in there!

Rebooting... bc ughhhh

So DS finished the antibiotics that he was prescribed at this visit (11 days ago, day of this first post) and he was back to normal EXCEPT he has been waking up 2-3 times a night. He isn't a great sleeper but I feel like something might be wrong so I had DH take DS back to ped today.. and the freaking tube is actually still in there... BUT IT"S TURNED so it's actually blocking his ear and making him have a build up of a LOT of fluid instead of draining it..

Needless to say I am again not a happy camper..

They told us to get back with the ENT in 2-3 days so of course we have to wait until THURS morning for an appt. GRRR.... i have no idea what they will even do at the apt?

anyone have tubes that got turned and had to go back? what did the ENT do????

I understand being upset. My older son’s came out at less than a year. He did eventually need another set. It’s sucks but it happens.

@Ajsmommy: I'd be pissed, esp bc you had to put him under to get the tubes in :-(

I would also be annoyed but we were told 6-12 months later it’s possible they could fall out and they would evaluate if another set is required. I would definitely call the ENT and demand a quick check to be sure it’s out and to figure out another option. Now I want to make sure my kids are still in there! It was quite the process.

I would call your ent and talk to them at least. We were told ours would last about 18m and I think by then one was still in place and one was sitting in the canal. Not overreacting in my book! It was very expensive for us too and I would have hated to start over. That 18m was enough for him to grow out of the need but 3m is ridiculous and they should hopefully check it out for you.

@Ajsmommy: oh gosh, that's a bummer! I'm sorry that happened. It's not uncommon for kids to have two sets of tubes because the first set falls out before the need for tubes is resolved. Falling out in 3 months just plain sucks. Do you guys have a visit with the ENT coming up?

So DS, 23 mos, got ear tubes put in in November. He's been under the weather and we took him to pedi last night and the ped said that one of his tubes was pushed out... like not in his ear anymore!

What?? not even 3 mos after taking the day off, putting my baby under and getting him tubes one of them is already out!??!?!? Why in goodness sake did we do it at all?????

I am not happy and I don't know why it's irking me so..... am I over reacting??
