Rip the bandaid, but be prepared to rip again after the move...sleep re-training is sometimes necessary. We moved when my twins were 6 months old and had done crib transition about a month before...had to do it all over again post-move. My twins are now 2.5 and I feel your pain. Fighting naps and bedtime here too, but I don't stay in there or anything. I will go in 1-2 times and say, "You need to go to sleep now. If you aren't able to be quiet, I am going to have to take _________ (whatever stuffed animal they might have in their crib) away from your room." That seems to work.

@MamaChin: nope. I was shocked. She just no longer freaked out when I said it was time to go. I don't know if it was the new bed or she was ready to be out of the crib!

Rip off the band-aid!! We transitioned our little guy to a new room, and new bed, at the same time we brought home a new baby - it went 100 times better than I had hoped (my Mom was here and offered to do the transition wakes and stuff for us - there weren't really any!). These guys can handle things better than we give them credit for sometimes! Just be prepared for a few rough nights, but they could happen anyways.

Rip the band aid!!!!!! My daughters sleep was shit shit shit. Multiple wakeuos, takes hours to put down. We needed the crib for the baby and thought what he heck. Transitioned her to a toddler since we didn't have a twin yet. Best decision. Ever. It made her a better sleeper. I'm not kidding.

I have absolutely no advice because we are in a bad sleep place right now too- I don't want to call it a regression because I can feel her two year molars coming in, but the end result is the same.

But personally, I don't think changing it all is any crazier than changing nothing and hoping for a different outcome! So yeah, I think taking the move as an opportunity to switch things up is a good idea. Why not? (Says the mom who laid with her almost 2 year old for an hour until she fell asleep tonight).

My son is 2.5 and in the last month had a major sleep regression. For 2 years we'd just go through our routine, put him down and leave. In the last 4 weeks between scary fireworks, fighting naps, coxsackie and a speech burst our sleep routine is completely wrecked. I now have to sit with him to fall asleep and 2-4 motn wake ups requiring me to rub his back until he's asleep again, then of course super early wake ups. Naps are fought with screams even when I'm sitting there but he will fall asleep in the car immediately because he's so tired from crappy night sleep. We are all so tired. We also move in two weeks. Am I crazy to want to start everything new when we move? New bed (he's still in a crib, loved it until 4 weeks ago), new nightlight (he currently needs the light on his humidifier, the humidity in the room is curling all his books!) and slowly gently sleep train? Or should I keep everything the same until we settle in the house then start changing stuff? I sort of want to just rip off the bandaid, this regression is killing me. I also have a 16 month old and the 2.5 year old is soooo cranky now, we all need our rest!
