Sounds like you're off to a solid start. I get about 7-12oz per day pumping 3x at work. I send 3x 4.5oz a day to day care. I added a 10pm session to get about 2.5 more ounces a day. Since I do that on Sat & Sun too it helps make up the amount I need for the week. Maybe you can add an extra session to take the pressure off work.

Ummm I tried everything and would have cried happy tears at 5 ounces. The most I ever pumped (while exclusively breast feeding) was 3.5 ounces at like 2AM after I had to be away from the baby unexpectedly for 5 hours. At work I was lucky to walk away from an entire work day (3 pump sessions) with 5 ounces. You're doing great!

I always got at most 5 oz so you sound like you're doing everything right! I had to do 4 pump sessions to get enough for daycare.

@brownie: yes, that sounds like my LO! She eats only a little bit at a time, but many times throughout the day when demand nursing. I should try the one-sided pumping!
@pregnantbee: oooh nice! I'll check out this link :)
@jetsa: really? that's so reassuring, thank you!!!!

@MrsLilybugg: I normally get 5-7oz between two sessions so that seems about right to me.

You're welcome! I'd also recommend watching or listening to this archived webinar called Five Tricks for Better Pumping found here http://www.isisparenting.com/page/webinarsbreastfeeding

It's pretty far down the list as it was from 2012, but it's totally worth it. There are great resources at this site for bf and sleep!

Good luck.

All women are different and respond differently to the pump. I pumped about 5 oz in two sessions a day (I nursed at lunch). You may want to try an extra session for a few days. I found pumping one side during the morning nursing got me enough.

You may only make a little at a time and that is normal . My son was (and still is) a snacked so he probably only took 3 oz a feed but fed a lot.

@pregnantbee: Yes to the "far enough apart"....! I nurse her before I leave, at 8:30ish. Then today pumped at 10 and 1. I use a hands-free bra. I haven't massaged, I'll try that next time!! THanks!

Hmm. Are the sessions far enough apart? Like 10, 1, and 4? Is your first session far enough away from your first morning nursing or pumping session at home? Do you have a hands-free bra? Are you massaging your breasts as you pump? Everyone is different., and 5 oz is still good!

I'm fairly new to pumping at work, and have been trying to get in three sessions per day. So far today, my two sessions have yielded me 5 oz total of breastmilk. I use a double-pump, I watch videos of LO, I'm not stressed, I'm drinking water during session...
I try to pump for 20 minutes. Is that too little? Is that why everyone else is filling up gallons of bottles and I have one measly 5 oz?
