My breastfed baby always took bottles that were 7 oz and it always freaked me out to read those threads just like you mentioned. It's what he needed though. I have a coworker who said her baby also ate that much so I believe there must be some variation.

FWIW, my baby is eating a lot more solid food at 9 months and is taking more like 5 oz per bottle.

J weighs a few lbs less and takes about the same amount in that time. He'll have a 6oz bottle at 7, 10:30, 2, 5, and 7. I think if he needs it, he needs it, but the nighttime feedings really do stink!

I don't think so, I'm in the camp of "you can't overfeed a baby"...

Mine eats 4 oz every *2* hours, plus solids 2x a day (she's 9.5 months), so it could very well be that your LO needs to eat that. I don't think your baby would eat if he isn't hungry :-)

if your baby is happy and gaining appropriately you're feeding him the right amount for him :)

my LO is 7.5 mo and she takes four 8-oz bottles per day. She is a bit smaller than your LO @ 16 (maybe closer to 17 now?) lbs. She isn't big on solids yet either

@wonderstruck: Rarely spits up. Seems very content after he eats. Though I'll double check with my mom and DH, since I never feed him bottles and they do.

If he's drinking it all and acting fine, I'd continue with it. Maybe it will taper down a bit once he's more into solids? How many oz do you think he is getting in all for the day? I think I read about 24-32oz is "normal."

I send just three 4oz bottles and I'm lucky if LO drinks it all... He much prefers food and seems to only chug down his bottles at daycare when thirsty enough from eating or tired and wanting to nap. Then he nurses a lot once he's back home with me and in the MOTN! Ugh.

@thismustbetheplace: @jetsa: Thanks. He is healthy, growing steadily, and is big but not huge. So based on that I think I'm probably not...

Sounds just fine to me. I think if you were overfeeding he would be spitting up a lot or obviously uncomfortable.

My kiddo was eating about the same around that time. I'm pretty sure he wasn't overfed. Some babies need more! He dropped down to 2 6 oz bottles at 9.5 months.

This sounds like a cop-out but it totally depends on your kid! :) I use this website's calculator and it helped us when I had similar questions:

Yet another feeding question from moi!

I just posted yesterday about not being able to pump enough for LO to eat at daycare. LO is 7 months, almost 20lbs and at day care for about 10 hours. I send 3 6oz bottles of breastmilk.

Just now I read a thread and people were saying they send their LOs with 3 4oz or 5oz bottles. Is 18 oz too much? He eats it all and our pediatrician told us to do 6 or even 7 oz bottles.

In case it is helpful, he isn't doing much solids yet and also nurses once in the morning, once before bed, and (omg, so, so tired) twice overnight. Or maybe I'm not feeding him enough...
