To be honest, it probably would have annoyed me a bit, but I would rather they be over-vigilant about something like that than not notice, you know? I'm sure they just didn't see him go in with you, and just wanted to make sure.

Ditto to what others have said. I would be really irritated and insulted if it happened to me but overall it is great they are being that careful. I might casually mention to the director though that it could have been phrased better. Even if I had left the kid in the car I would have felt judged and embarrassed by being called out on it that way as opposed to them politely informing me that it wasn't a good idea and was against campus policy.

Same as previous folks - I would be PISSED but at the same time glad my kid went to a daycare where people were getting grilled by security to protect those kids. Your daycare dollars at work!

Its gotten up to over 100 degrees here lately and in the past year I can't even count the number of kids on the news who died in our area after being left in cars, so perhaps they are being more vigilant.

It makes sense you are offended, but honestly it just sounds like a mistake and that they are very diligent. Human error I think. I guess it is good they are hawks? Clearly they had a misunderstanding in regard to you. Or they are crazy and purposely trying to upset you, but that is doubtful so I assume they just thought they saw something they didn't.

I would feel comforted that they are looking out for the kids but I wouldn't have liked the way they said it. I probably would have told them to check the security cameras and been on my way...

I agree with @blackbird:

You're upset, because you were wrongly accused. But, she's just going off of what she thought she saw. Had she been correct, it would have been her job to note that you left the child in the car.

Meh; it would have irritated me a little, but I wouldn't be upset about it.

We have security guards at our building and man, they are up in everyone's business - always glaring at people and giving you totally suspicious stare-downs when you pass them in the hall during their "rounds"; the way they act you would think I work at a high security risk type place but I work at a very relaxed office, in the insurance industry haha I think some security guards just take their jobs very, very, very seriously!

They're probably had issues in the past with kids being left in the car, you know?

Maybe they've come across several incidents of parent(s) leaving their LO in the car so they're more strict about it? I'd be annoyed but I'd just let it go unless it happens again!

I feel like I need some perspective on something that happened as I dropped my LO off at daycare today.

Our daycare center is on a large campus that has guarded entry. Since we just enrolled him recently, I don't have my permanent entry pass yet so today I had to first take my LO with me into the visitors' center to get a temporary pass to present to the security officer at the gate.

As I drove up to the security gate after getting my temporary pass, there were several security officers standing around. One of them looked at my LO in the backseat and asked how old he was. I thought the security officer was just being nice, but after I answered, she asked, "did you leave him in the car when you went into the visitor center?" After I said no of course not, she said "Because we saw you come back to the car to get him but didn't see you go in with him." I told her she was more than welcome to check with the clerk in the visitors' center to verify that I had my LO with me.

WTF? I drove away, my face hot with anger. Thinking about it now, I am still livid they would even suggest that, especially since they were making accusations based on something they could only partially observe from several yards away. I don't know what their status is (if they're just security guards or actual law enforcement) so I don't even know if I have a recourse to complain to. Am I being irrational? Would you feel the same way if this happened to you?
