Her reasoning makes sense because the traffic can be scary and it's too hot this week to sit in her car. At least she wasn't a pest, but if she isn't right for the job she just isn't right.

@autumnlove: That's funny, I'm moving to CA next week too, and i am SUPER nervous about the traffic. I've had a couple interviews there too where i ended up at the office super early, but then i sat in my car with the windows down while i waited...Poor lady. the knitting did not help her case at all....

Aww, this thread makes me so sad! I'm looking for work and have edited my resumes, showed up on time, dressed appropriately, have a clean internet presence, and am professional and still - nothing! It makes me wonder what about me is making other people think I'm weird.

I absolutely hate it when people show up that early! I usually wait in the car until 10 minutes before my interview. Yeesh.

I met the weirdest people when i did high volume recruiting a while back. One guy asked how flexible the manager was in giving time off...he had to go for physiotherapy sessions bc he got shot in a club. Ummm, i didnt ask so why tell me this??

I also felt sorry for this girl but at the same time wondering what in the WORLD is going through her head. I arrive super early everywhere I go, but I wait in my car or find a store/restaurant to chill in until closer to the time!

@highwire: One of my best employees referred his friend for a position a few years ago. He was a recent college grad, played baseball in college, was super charismatic and interviewed well. I told my boss I wanted to hire him so I asked him to sign off on it. The next day my boss sent me a link to the guy's public Myspace profile that featured a lovely picture of him SMOKING A JOINT in his cap and gown. We did not hire him!

I've been in several situations like this as an interviewer. We also had a strange office where I sat in the front (we didn't have/need redeptionists). So, they would come VERY early, and then I would keep working in front of them...so awkward. One woman (a knitter) had on an outfit that looked like she knit it herself! HUGE red flag! Interviewing was quite enjoyable, and we had a lot of fun reading applications and resumes. Some people just don't get what professional means.

@MrsLMA: It just doesn't make sense to me. You know the economy sucks. There are a ton of people out of work applying to the same jobs that you are. Why wouldn't you give your resume a good once-over (or asking a friend/family member to do so) before submitting it out to prospective employers?

@HighWire: I found the same thing! I couldn't belive how sloppy most of the resume's were! There was one cover letter in particular that the person forgot to change the name of the company.... yes, I had a cover letter explaining why the candidate (term used loosely) was a great fit for X Company.... and we aren't X Company!:)

Funny thing about this post is my dept is hiring right now, I went to punch out for lunch and there was someone sitting in the lobby. I asked if they were being helped and they said yes. I went to the bathroom and went out and smoked and came back and she was still there. It had been at least 20min.
I went and told my supervisor I thought her interview was here and she said it wasn't until 3pm! That was at 2pm that she was sitting out there and apparently had been for a while. Looks like it's the day for people to come awkwardly early to interviews lol

Yeah, it sounds like she drove there, so she should have just sat in her car and knitted there or gone somewhere nearby. The fact that she decided to sit in the lobby is just strange! It's great she wanted to be on time, but once she made it, she shouldn't have made an inconvenience of herself.

I understand her wanting to be there on time but once she found the building she should have waiting somewhere close by until atleast 10.30 before coming in for her 11am appointment. coming in at 9.30 is irritating and way too early

She just moved to CA from Colorado for a fresh start (I didn't ask and she didn't elaborate on what that meant) and she was nervous about LA traffic (she lives 30 mins away) so she left super early. She did ok with the questions in the interview but she had trouble sitting still...she kept opening and closing her binder/porfolio while we were talking! I asked her about knitting and she said says it is something she just picked up and is currently obsessed with...no kidding! :-)
Not sure about this one...leaning towards NO.

@autumnlove: Please tell us after your interview if you asked her why she was so early! If she did take public transportation, I can kind of forgive her a little bit. If she drove herself, then she should've sat in her car instead of coming inside - that's just weird!
