I turned 35 when I was about 10 weeks along and had my daughter about 5.5 weeks ago. Pregnancy was pretty easy for me. I had gestational diabetes as well as large fibroids. I never agreed with the GD diagnosis and quite frankly think I never had it, but I went along with it. My fibroids are large, but as a Black woman, they tend to affect us more than any other group. I never felt my fibroids nor did they ever impede me in any during the pregnancy (although I ended up with a C-secion because of them). I worked out and felt great until about 38 weeks, but who doesn't feel icky at 38 weeks? Neither of these conditions were age specific.

My daughter is healthy, and we were given a 1 in 10,000 chance for chromosomal abnormalities. I also got pregnant on my first cycle. Beginner's luck?

If and when we decide on having #2, I'll be about 37/38. I think that's the longest I'd wait. I don't want to go past 40, if we choose to have another child.

Good luck with your decision!

I am AMA - 35 now and due in 2.5 weeks. We had (relatively speaking) no trouble getting pregnant naturally (6 cycles after stopping BCP using basically only OPKs) and have had a very easy pregnancy so far. We're planning to start TTC with #2 when LO is a year old, I'll be 36.

My pregnancy was complicated, but the issues had nothing to do with age. I got pregnant and delivered at age 38. If I wanted another child (which I don't think we do at this point), I would consider doing it again (at age 41).

I did and would screen for chromosomal anomalies, especially for those which are incompatible with life. For Downs, I would just want to be prepared.

I'm not advanced maternal age, but my mom was 39 when she had my sister. She waited a few years after having me while deciding about #2 and then had a slight bit of IF (I'm really not sure how long) due to endometriosis. She got pregnant immediately after a lap for the endo. She did have hyperemesis gravidarum, but that had nothing to do with AMA because she had that with me as well. Other than that she had a healthy pregnancy and baby. :)

In case I freaked anyone out with the poll, I'll post an article I found while searching advanced maternal age.

I'm feeling a little under the weather today and as I lay here, I'm thinking about my LO. Does she "need" a sibling? Do we want another? Can we even handle another? I promised myself to wait another year before we even think about it, but I'm getting old. Will I even be able to conceive IF we hold off that long? That's if we decide to.

So this poll is out to all the older ladies.
