DH placed an order last night and it is already out for delivery, even though we didn't pay for 1 day shipping. Prime really is worth it to us.

Right now, I'm only paying $39 a year because I was using Amazon Student (which is free 6 months of prime). When it's time to renew in Dec 2014, I'll see if we want to pay more than that.

I'm honestly not sure. I'll obviously keep it (I think our renewal is in October?) until renewal time but I'm going to start watching for delivery dates. Even the whole 2 day thing is bogus. Ordered something this morning, the delivery date (WITH PRIME) is Tuesday. Saturday counts, guys. You deliver on Saturdays.

The ONLY reason I would maybe keep it is because I work from home. With LO, it's hard to get out as it is. It's not like I can go pick it up easily from work on my lunch break or way to/from work like I used to. But if it keeps being more than 2 days to deliver, I would be too annoyed to keep it, because then where's the benefit? Gah I'm such a homebody now...

We would definitely still pay. It would suck, but we use Prime for everything possible. We also get at least 5 things every month through the subscribe and save to get the 20% discount. It does suck that VA just started charging sales tax on Amazon purchases, but the convenience just can't be beat. We also never have an issue with getting things in 2 days, often times we get it in one.

I love Amazon and they have great customer service, but I am not interested inpaying a dollar more for Prime. I just don't think it is worth it. I would rather just plan ahead and order with Free Super Saver shipping. That stuff always arrives within the same timeframe as Prime stuff anyway!

Yes, I would pay significantly more for Amazon Prime. I order seriously *everything* through Prime and max out my Subscribe & Save discount every month. Before I had kids, I probably would not have thought it was worth it, but now the thought of spending time on the weekend driving to Target, unloading DD from her carseat, shopping, and carrying everything into my house makes me cringe. I *love* having bulk items just show up on my doorstep.

I also live in a major metro area and always get things within 1-2 days, via UPS. I think it really depends where you live how the shipping works out, but it works very well for me.

Also, Amazon customer service is pretty great. Every time I have had an issue, the guys on email were GREAT and went above and beyond in fixing my problem. For example, my S&S order this month had a damaged item - it was so cold last week that one of the liquid items exploded in the box and damaged my entire order. They sent me a completely new order at no charge, with 1-day shipping.

@mrs. bird: My Choice is the best! I don't need the features anymore but I love getting notifications because I find out even when things get sent to me from someone else. And if I want to be home when things get delivered I'll know when that window is. Or I can reschedule a delivery.

@mrbee: Sorry I completely threadjacked this. In short, I guess for what I'm already paying I want fast, reliable, premium delivery services!

@Mrs. Pen: you can do one time releases or just a general release for all of your pkgs. I only do one time releases. 40lbs of cat litter up 4 flights of stairs?? I want the guy to carry it up :D I think you can request where it's left, but I can't see right now since I don't have any shipped & undelivered items right this second. It's my choice UPS (I have basic, you could pay for premium & more features), you can prob do all of it online, I just find the app easy. We've had pkgs go missing, but now no one touches our stuff. I think they're all afraid of mr bird, lol.

I am cancelling anyways since my student pricing is about to expire ($39/year instead of $79 or whatever the normal price is). A $40 increase on top of that means it would absolutely be off the table, since I don't do that much amazon shopping anyways. I can just wait and buy things I need at once for the free standard shipping.

Ugh, that's a big increase. $40's quite a bit more. I hope that there's some uproar against it. I thought that Amazon was good at understanding their business model. This sounds like the Netflix streaming/dvd thing they did with a horrible response. Is Amazon getting too big for their britches?

I agree with others two day shipping is getting unreliable lately.

@mrs. bird: oh weird. I prefer USPS because they leave it with our landlord! UPS won't. I will look for the app - that'd be great if I could authorize them to leave the package. Could I ask them to leave it with our landlord? I wouldn't be okay with it outside our apartment door because there have been package thefts in our building (stole one of my packages, actually).

@Mrs. Pen: do you have the UPS app? i have it on my iphone & i get an email the night before they have a delivery with a 3 hour window of their estimated arrival time and then i can authorize a release for them to leave the pkg. it's a lifesaver for me when i know i'm not going to be there when they arrive. they leave the pkgs even though USPS refuses to even deliver pkgs to my building- they leave a note and require that i pick them up during their normal business hours, which was next to impossible when i worked full time.

Interesting - I always receive in 2 business days, and occasionally one. I'm in a major metropolitan area near an Amazon facility though, so maybe that helps. I can't imagine paying a nearly 50% increase in Prime costs...would probably start directing my business elsewhere.

It wasn't a conscious decision, but I just realized that with the slower delivery and now paying sales tax (which I know is not their decision) I'm starting to go out and buy things that I used to order out of convenience. It was nice to get a good price and have it delivered quickly w/o leaving the home, but now if I know I'm going to save a few cents and not know how long I'll be waiting...I'll just find it locally. Obscure things I suppose I'll have to suck it up.
