I have an Amazon registry and a Target registry. I orginally put everything on Amazon as I was compiling a list, and then went through a "transferred" anything to the Target registry that was actually available at my local Target store. If I added it to my Target registry, I took it off my Amazon registry.

I had an Amazon registry for those who were online savvy and a Target registry for those who were just procrastinators. In the end, those who respected the idea of a registry used Amazon and no one used the Target registry, which was okay with me. I just wished more people used the registry, period!! =P

The only people who bought off of our Amazon registry were people who lived far away and would have had to ship stuff anyway. I compared prices with BBB and put stuff on the Amazon registry if it was cheaper. I also put books on the Amazon registry.
As a side note, we can pay for stuff on Amazon with our Amex points, which is a bonus.

i wanted too but knew our families would not get the premises of it, and doing it for just my friends didn't seem the way to go. We did Target and a local store knowing this would work out best for our guests.

I registered on Amazon and BRU. I ended up putting a lot of the same items on both. I figure if something gets bought off one, I'll delete it off the other. I imagine w/ my friends and family most will go to the the store and buy a gift and I won't be surprised if it's the day before or day of. I figured Amazon might be easier for out of town relatives.

I loved it! the one disadvantage is that in general most people don't order online, or in advance.
The 10% off anything was great because they have a great selection than baby stores.

I forgot to mention, a lot of people buy gifts at the last minute so a registry at a store with physical locations might be helpful for them. I suspect that's another reason why we got clothing as gifts -- people were shopping in the day or two before the shower.

@kml636: Just so you know, returns are not easy at Target. That's one of the worst things about the store and why people suggest not registering there.

We're doing both Amazon and BRU. We'll do the majority of our stuff at BRU, but any stuff we can't find at BRU or stuff from random websites (love the universal registry!), we're putting on our Amazon registry.

I set up an amazon one. I was just told my Dh's aunt that she "doesn't have an account" and so for her and other people that don't want to shop online, I'm making one at target and putting everything I still need on both. I figure returns will be easy to target if I get duplicates.

I had an Amazon registry and didn't really have issues with it. Lots of people didn't buy off the registry - most because they don't shop online at all (older relatives), and some who just wanted to buy us clothing, books or items we had not registered for. Lots of people just want to buy you clothes or other items regardless of whats on your registry or where it is.

I love love loved shopping off the amazon registry because I was able to price shop, find the cheapest price, but still mark it as bought. I really liked it and would have done the same for my own registry, but I had already had my shower.

Yup and we got a lot of gifts off of it! We did a combo brick & mortar and online universal registry for our wedding and that worked out really well. So we knew it would too for the baby shower.

If anything you can keep it private to get the 10% completion discount!

I registered at Amazon and most people bought stuff off the registry online. I don't think people got the idea that you could buy things elsewhere and mark it purchased. From those that didnt want to shop online I received clothing so I think it worked out pretty well.

For those who set up two registries, how did you handle splitting things up? I already have everything picked out on the Amazon one, and I'm thinking it wouldn't work well to duplicate register for the same stuff at both stores (too many people will only look at one and I don't want them to have to compare lists to see what is fulfilled). I'd go by price, but they seem to be comparable or cheaper on Amazon.

I had an Amazon registry & got quite a few gifts off it. I think most of my friends are big online shoppers & almost everyone I know has Amazon Prime. I looove Amazon & it was a lifesaver during those early weeks when I just didn't have the time or energy to leave the house. Their registry completion discount was also great.

I had a BRU registry as well, so maybe you could set up both?

Did anyone here have an Amazon registry? How did you like it? Did people actually use it, or did they get confused?

We've set up our registry on Amazon (still private for now), but have been told several times that some people just don't shop online. We've tried explaining that just because we're registered at Amazon doesn't mean it has to be bought on Amazon, but people don't seem to get that. What were your experiences with an Amazon registry?
