As a molecular biologist, I think the amber necklaces stuff is bunk.

Thankfully my daughter didn't have any trouble with teething, so I never even considered it. But the thought of something around an infant's neck makes me super uncomfortable.

@NYCALIMAMA: I was the one that originally posted wondering about these necklaces. I wouldn't say we can't live without it but we definitely are enjoying life much more having it. Her drooling has drastically slowed down with the necklace and that in itself is worth it to me. Also the other day I took it off her before bedtime and as I was giving her her last bottle I realized she was running a fever. I put the necklace back on her (on her ankle under a sock) and within 30 minutes the fever was gone. I realize that could be a fluke, but I honestly think the amber helps.

@geekinheels perhaps you meant ibuprofen/motrin, not aspirin. just so all moms are reminded, babies should never be give aspirin due to risk of Reyes Syndrome.

thank you for the advice on these necklaces everyone. my baby is in the drooling stage and should be teething soon.

I have a hard time believing that it can actually work. The premise is that the substance from the amber seeps into the skin (at least that is what I have read), so considering the amount that would be required, it seems like it wouldn't be possible. They are sold where I live and lots of moms swear by it, but I have yet to purchase one.

We got our necklace from Inspired by Finn and definitely notice a difference when he has it on. It does get a little maddening how many times you have to explain "what's with the necklace", but it's worth it!

Inspired by Finn is one of the best-known and most reputable sites for amber necklaces (it's where we got ours too!) so you're right not to worry. :-)

Teething always seems to be a crapshoot — what works for one baby will not always work for another, and some babies don't even seem to be bothered by teething at all! For Claire, her favorite were those mesh feeder things...I would put some chilled sliced fruit in there and she would go to town with them. She didn't like teething toys that much, but practically every baby I know (well, aside from Claire that is) seems to love Sophie the giraffe. Also, if she seemed to be in extra pain at night, I would give her Tylenol. (We switched to aspirin at 6 months because aspirin helps with inflammation in addition to the pain.) Good luck!

I purchased it from Inspired By Finn which seems to be a pretty reputable company so I'm not too worried about it being fake. I figured it was hit or miss as to whether or not it would work, but definitely worth a shot. Did you find anything that particularly worked well for Claire?

I'm sorry to say that it really seems to depend on the baby. I know some moms who swear by them, and I also know babies with whom it didn't make the slightest difference (my Claire being one of them).

That being said, I have read that there have been tons of fake amber necklaces floating around on the internet, so please make sure that you receive an authentic one!

Has anyone used baltic amber jewelry to relieve teething symptoms/pain? I purchased a necklace for Libby-Jane from one of the daily deal websites yesterday and I'm waiting for it to come but I'm still a little skeptical. Anyone have any experiences to share?
