I turn up the suction as high as I can tolerate comfortably ( which is still really low!) and speed starts on full until the milk comes in and then I turn the speed way down. I pump for half an hour.

@autumnlove: max suction too? Wow, maybe that is my problem... it hurts if I turn it up more than 1/8 - 1/4 of the way, though it depends on the day. I've been pumping for the last 20 minutes and I bet I don't even have one ounce. :( I did get 3 oz and 2 oz at my first two sessions of the day... so, a little better. My LO needs 13.5 though while I'm away!

I pumped at max speed and suction for the first few minutes until milk was flowing before turning it down to medium/lower speeds. I pumped for 25-30 mins per session and usually got 6-12 ounces.

I often get so little milk, even though my boobs feel kind of full and I can easily express milk with my hands. I've tried larger flanges and that didn't really help... I may try and order smaller ones to see if that does anything.

In the meantime, I'm wondering if anyone has any tips about how to set the speed and suction for maximum output? What works best for you?
