@CECILIA: my AMH is also 0.03. My dr had me do 3 rounds of IUI's before moving onto IVF. Since all of my other levels are perfectly normal, and I am under 35, they said AMH isn't. Sole predictor of anything. We did our first round of ivf in April and got 9 eggs retrieved and 5 fertilized normally. Unfortunately, a couple of hours before we went in for our transfer, we found out that 3 of our embryos had arrested, and the other 2 weren't looking good. Theu ended up arresting as well. At our follow up appointment, the dr did mention thinking about donor eggs, or we could try another round ourselves. We decided to try one more round using my eggs in October, but we actually have a consult with a new RE tomorrow morning just to get a second opinion. I am currently taking DHEA (25mcg three times daily) and CoQ10 twice daily. I was told that I should take it for at least 3 months before egg retrieval for optimum results.

@Bluewolverine: congratulations for your absolutely adorable baby girl!
Regarding the AMH levels, I tested the theory with vitamind D deficiency. In my case, when i first tested both, i had AMH=0.03 and Vit D=13,5. Then i took 2000UI vit D/day for just over a month, and retested. Now my AMH is 0.134 (so 4 times higher, but still very low) and vit D is now 35.4. Although it's not much of a difference now for me, i would say vit D levels should be checked when AMH is this low. In my case, the AFC confirms the low AMH.
The doctor said we should TTC naturally a few more months and then, if still not pregnant, try IVF, although he said that with my low AFC (3) the success rate is somewhere between 20-30%. I am 26 years old. It's unbelievable to have such diminished OR at this age.

I conceived naturally with AMH of .66 -- my FSH and other labs were normal. I'm now 31 weeks pregnant (almost age 37). My AMH level was at age 35 - at that time, I'd already had DS1 (took 8 months to conceive with one miscarriage) and DS2 (conceived on second month). Before this (hopefully) successful third pregnancy, we had several early losses and we still don't exactly know why (but I was nursing and believe that was the cause).

As far as I can tell, AMH is not the end all and be all. Good luck!

Hello, I have very low AMH .3 and became pregnant on my own.

I also work in reproductive medicine, so have a little more knowledge then most. AMH does not indicate egg quality, it indicates potentially your ovarian reserve. Good news at 31 you are still young. You might not have a ton of eggs, but the ones you do have are most likely a good quality.

Good luck...

Edit - just realized this is an old thread...

@cecilia: I also have an AMH of 0.03. Have you checked you vitamin D levels? I read so much about how vitamin D deficiency can influence the results in AMH. I am on supplements for more than a month now (to increase it from 13, to a minimum of 30) and i will soon go test and see if my AMH is any higher.
But then again, my AFC was low when i did the first AMH so it could be a real situation. We are actively ttc for 3 months now. Nothing so far. But i am not losing hope..yet

@Cecilia Hi, it's been a roller-coaster since finding out my amh was low in 2015. We visited a couple of fertility specialist and they all said the same thing, there's really nothing to do except wait. I don't produce enough eggs for IVF and clomid won't help since I don't have enough eggs. Last May I finally conceived, but it ended in a miscarriage due to a partial molar pregnancy. I have been on birth control every since the miscarriage because my doctor advised not to try to concieve again for 9 months. My husband and I haven't decided if we even will try again.

I know this isn't the best news but everyone is different and my story may not be your story. Hang in there and keep trying, if that's what you want. Patients is key! Best of luck!

@Shantuck: I'm not sure if the DHEA helped. Placebo effect maybe?
I honestly think I got pregnant because I completely surrendered to the fact it might never happen and realized I had no control over anything. During acupuncture and yoga I mediated and did a lot of positive self talk.
I will never use meds to treat infertility. In my situation I do not believe hormonal treatment/ivf would work- bad/low count eggs are bad eggs but miracles actually do happen.

@quietlywaiting: I had an AMH of .3 and an FSH (the month I conceived) of 30!! "Catastrophically high" as research would tell you. (I think I had 2 or 3 follicles that month also.) I want to say do not put too much emphasis on those numbers. I'm just not sure they're that reliable in predicting fertility.
How old are you? Age really affects things more than AMH and FSH (per my doctors and now, me). I am 31.
Also, IVF does not work well with us ladies with crappy eggs. it just doesn't. My DH and I have decided we will never do ART as the success rates are just too low. A "miracle" is more likely to happen. I did yoga, accupuncture, took DHEA, exercised, reduced dairy, and finally just surrendered to my shitty eggs and I swear to god it worked.

@quietlywaiting: My AMH is .15, so also really low. Because we are lucky enough to already have DD, we're not willing to spend all of our savings on IVF. We are going to go ahead and do an injectable IUI cycle. Because of my numbers and age (I'm 39), my RE doesn't want to mess around with Clomid, etc. I had an HSG and everything is clear. I just had a hysteroscopy and laparoscopy. The lap removed some endometrial tissue (not a lot) and my doc is ready to go with the injectable cycle. We'll see. My doc definitely discussed donor eggs with us, but because we're not doing IVF, he dropped it pretty quickly. I asked him if it was even worth doing the injectable IUI cycle, he said yes.

I wish you luck!!

@quietlywaiting I'm sorry you did not receive better news. My story was very similar to yours, except my first RE convinced us that we had a good chance with IVF- both cycles failed and we ended up getting a second opinion and used a donor egg. I got pregnant on that cycle and just celebrated my baby girls first birthday. Please let me know if you would like any more info. I know how difficult it can be and am keeping you in my thoughts.

@quietlywaiting: Sorry to hear the bad news. :( For what it's worth, you could also consider embryo adoption. It's usually cheaper than regular adoption, and some people to have a baby that's either 100% theirs or 100% not, rather than only having one person as a biological parent and the other not.

Hi all, thanks for your responses. It's been a few weeks so I just wanted to give an update. I met with my RE two weeks ago. He said, unfortunately, I am only able to produce 1 (or maybe 2) follicles a month, which may or may not have a healthy egg. There’s not much he can do to help the situation because I cannot produce enough eggs for IVF. We could try natural IVF which would require only one egg, however, he said that it is expensive and the odds of getting pregnant on our own are just as high as natural IVF.

Next steps: he is going to monitor me to confirm that I am actually ovulating; I am having genetic testing done to see if that was the cause of my DOR; I am having an HSG procedure to make sure my fallopian tubes are not blocked; and my husband is taking a sperm test.

If all results come back normal the most we can do is keep trying on our own, think about an egg donor, or adoption. He also said if my hot flashes and irregular period get worse, I might want to consider getting back on birth control to regulate my system.

I don't have a success story yet as I just received similar test results last week (AMH of 0.79 and FSH of 12.72) and am awaiting my first appointment with a RE. However, I've been trying to research ways to improve egg quality and recently read "It Starts With The Egg" by Rebecca Fett. It has some useful ideas on what to do to make sure the eggs you do have are high quality (including supplement suggestions, dietary changes, etc.) The author talks about how she had a diminished ovarian reserve and was able to break the records at her fertility clinic with number of good quality eggs, etc. just by doing the things she recommends. Might be worth a read.

I don't know much about low AMH, but I've read that in women under 35 it's not a sole predictor of low IVF success rates. I recently found out that I'm looking at IVF as my only likely option (due to make factor), and it seemed utterly overwhelming at first, but now I'm just ready to go! When is your appointment? It's totally scary sometimes, but just remember that you're making progress toward your baby!

My AMH was low but not as low as yours. Mine was 0.76, I believe. I also had elevated FSH (almost 11) but I always had between 7 and 9 follicles so I know my situation is not the same as yours. I think, in the end, my problem was not the reserve even though I was diagnosed as DOR, but my egg quality (due to age). We were actively trying to get pregnant for 5 months before we got pregnant the first time and lost it. We got pregnant again the month after and lost that one too. Our doctor noted that we were clearly getting pregnant no problem despite my diminished reserve and DH's fairly low morphology. 2 rounds of clomid and I got pregnant with what seems like a sticky one for now (I'm 7 1/2 weeks) DOR seems to be one of those things that is hard to treat. We don't typically respond well to medication (such as the FSH's that they use for IVF) because you can't mature more eggs if they aren't there. I actually did respond well to clomid, surprisingly. They usually say you can just keep trying and hope to get lucky or try an egg donor. There are some RE's that specialize in DOR as well, but you may need to travel. I'd google and see what doctors are out there. Best of wishes to you. Fertility issues are a difficult, and frustrating road. I hope your journey is short!

Anyway, do not despair. IVF may not be your only option at all! Even with this complication I only had to do two rounds of IUI to conceive. I am 14 weeks now. :)

Hi All, this is my first post. I'm 31 and my husband and I have been not preventing for a year. We are not in a hurry, so we thought we would casually see if I would get pregnant.

I was on bc for about 16 years, and was very irregular before getting on the pill. Once getting off the pill last year, for the first 8 months my period only would come every 50-60 days. I called my doc and they said not to worry because my body was just adjusting, and I could not come in until I had been TTC for 1 year. Now my period is coming every 20-27 days but only lasts 1 day.

After the full year of waiting was up, I scheduled my regular obgyn appt. My doc did blood tests and an ultrasound. Come to find out, my AMH level is a very low 0.03 and the ultrasound showed that I only have one follicle on one of my ovaries. All other test results were normal. My doc has refered me to a fertility specialist.

I'm just nervous because I don't know what to expect. Has anyone had my same issue?

I've done a lot of research but have not found much information on having such a low ovarian reserve. And if IVF is the only way to conceive, I'm not 100% I want to do that right now, but it seems like it might be a now or never situation.

Any advise or encouragment is welcome!
