@travellingbee: 'whole healthy foods.' definitely the way to go. I found that at about 34-ish I started getting food hangovers- totally feeling like crap after eating crap. Another joy of aging: hangovers from multiple sources! (also, congrats on your progress  )

@sandy: Did you read the comments? Brutal! She clearly had some serious issues I have not been burdened with.
My weight, prior to pregnancy, was pretty steady for 10+years and now I am only dealing with 10 pounds, but I totally agree with the message: Looking amazing doesn't mean you feel amazing (although you may) and looking 'fat' doesn't mean you feel like crap (although you may).

@rachiecakes: 'My time is much more valuable now. ' This, this, this!
I am so done wasting mental and physical time one this. One of the reasons I have been a bit more active on the fitness boards is because I have committed to myself that I need to wrap this issue up once and for all, one way or another...being honest on the boards is hellobee therapy.

I am SO ashamed of the renewal of my preoccupation with something as frivolous as weight/size. Such a stupid waste! I never talk about it IRL,but as I get older, it seems a constant conversation among women: who is and is not retaining their youthful figure.

Right now I lift weights, but I think I would like to also join a group activity of some sort, of people who are being active more for fun and health and less for getting as small as they can.

and always, in the back of my mind, is this blog: https://hopeave.wordpress.com/2013/07/29/how-to-talk-to-your-daughter-about-her-body/

I had my son at 31. Being over 30 and having a baby, my body is different and I don't lose weight as easily as I used to. Before LO I could cut dairy for a week and lose 5lbs.
I'm above my ideal weight but I've accepted that I have a healthy diet, I exercise and this is a healthy me. If I wanted to be thinner, I'd have to really restrict or dedicate time I'm not willing to part with to a more intense workout schedule. My time is much more valuable now.

This was a pretty good article about a mom who wasn't happy constantly trying to be thin

It is definitely harder the older I get. In my 20s i basically had to think about "dieting" and I was thinner. I've never been overweight but I've gotten 8-10lbs higher than I'd like. I didn't bounce back physically from pregnancy like I thought I would. I've decided that it isn't for me about reducing my calories for life, but about making better choices. I'll admit I'm a carboholic and I crave sugar. I need to be better about that. I've lost 8lbs in a month and a half by walking after work and swapping out high carb/processed junk for breakfast and lunch for whole healthy foods.

First, let me clear up that my intention is not to talk about giving it all up in the name of self realization nor trying to tuck it all in until they pry our metabolife from our cold, dead hands.
I just want to talk about some of our experiences, tips and angst regarding motherhood, aging and trying to maintain a semblance of our physical selves.
For me, this issue comes with baggage. Weight loss rules supreme in my large, matriarchal family. My mom, 64, uses protein shakes and cigarettes to stay trim. My aunt has laxative induced encopresis. I have been fat and skinny, with my extended family vastly preferring skinny regardless of the process.
My husband is amazing in this regard and could care less.
That being said, my experience is that I gained weight more easily 35+ and have a harder time losing it. I have great cardiovascular stamina and just did 100 squats easy today, but my figure isn’t what it used to be. I have been increasing my work outs but it is not enough. I am going to have to commit to a bit of life long calorie restriction or accept being about 10 pounds over my ideal weight (as noted by insurance/ bmi/ etc.)
I’m on the fence regarding which direction I will go. I am not going to ‘diet’ for the next 40 years. But, gaining weight, even at ¼ lb a month, will not end well for me.
I am thinking of giving up alcohol to address the extra calories and impulse eating.
The only thing I know for sure is that I hope to never mention any of this shite to LO. I do not want her ever thinking that the number on a scale should dictate her day.
What about you?
How’s it going?
