I'm sorry you are going through this. As I mentioned in the other post I had a risk of 1/170, which is still a 0.5% chance my baby would have had downs. You have a 0.2% chance you will have a baby with downs. My husband barely flinched when we got the results. I think we freak out because you hear about people with 1/2000 chance of having downs and that number sounds so much better/reassuring. My doctor point blank told me he highly doubted that my daughter would have downs, and didn't think it was necessary to do extra testing (though he would recommend counselors if I wanted to).

I also suggest that you not google message boards/websites that talk about their risk numbers. DH was so annoyed by some of the "math" these women came up with.

Best of luck! I say you do the testing if you feel it will give you peace of mind. I was really close to getting an amnio but was scared of miscarrying again.

@Sophs Mama: Sorry that you're having to go through this worry :( It adds so much stress to what should be such a happy time!

When I was pregnant with my daughter our anatomy scan showed an EIF - basically a bright spot in the heart that is not a concern for the baby's health but is sometimes a marker for Downs (I'm not sure what our risk was statistically). I was offered an amnio but we declined. We were stressed, but finally came to peace with it and our daughter does not have Downs.

Yesterday I had my anatomy scan for baby #2 (a boy!) and were told that his kidneys are dilated and that this can be a concern both for kidney function and a marker for Downs. So frustrating to go through this fear again! I am a little less worried because we have gone though this once and had it be nothing. Luckily technology has advanced and they drew blood for the Panorama screen yesterday so we will be able to get a better idea of our Downs risk. I can see why you would wait as it is not covered for you. I hope that your next ultrasound is perfect, but even if it's not I can tell you that I've been in this boat before and am now finding myself in it again! Best of luck for a healthy baby and some answers soon!

No advice, but hoping it turns out that it was just due to the position of the baby during the scan.

@mamag: the Harmony test was offered to me, but it's new in Canada and so it's not free as part of our universal health care (I know, I am lucky to have zero costs associated with pregnancy and delivering a baby in Canada, but $800 is a lot), so we will base our decision to do it based on the results of my next ultrasound.

@Sophs Mama: There's a couple of moms on the December 2014 thread going through this same thing and it seems their doctors are ordering additional bloodwork like Harmony or MaterniT21. That might be something worth questioning with your doctor.

We were higher than normal risk for Downs...1 in 250. It worried me sick and was after my 12 week NT scan blood work came back. They didn't see any additional issue at the anatomy scan, but I remained high risk.

LO will be 2 in September and he does not have Downs Syndrome.

@mrs. high heels: thanks for finding that for me, it's so hard not to worry about everything, and then to add a possible complication just makes it worse.

@weagle: this was me too. The little guy wouldn't move and wasn't in an optimal position for the scan, and to me, the pictures he was getting weren't super clear. I'm hoping my scan next week is with a super high tech machine. I can't deal.

My first anatomy scan showed markers for downs, but the more detailed scans showed everything is normal. I was told by my midwife and MFM that it's fairly common to have these extra scans when you've got a stubborn baby (check!) or not an especially detailed ultrasound machine (check!) or if your scan is done somewhere that isn't specifically for prenatal scans (check!).

@Sophs Mama: I haven't experienced it personally, but Mrs. Pencil wrote a pretty detailed post about her experience - http://www.hellobee.com/2014/06/06/how-my-first-trimester-screening-induced-serious-pregnancy-anxieties/ - her baby turned out completely healthy.

My sister-in-law had the same odds for DS, but the baby ultimately didn't have it - or anything else! He was born a little bit early, but that was seemingly completely unrelated.

My cousin has been told that due to large head circumference during scans... her babies just have big heads and are perfectly healthy! Like @blackbird: said, they have to put wide metrics/measurements on the data which can cause worry when there's nothing wrong. Every baby is different and no two have all the same numbers, so some variety is to be expected and perfectly normal.

I wrote on your other post, but we were high risk for a few reasons. Downs was 1/25, and my hormones showed high likelihood for turners syndrome. We ended up with a cvs and there was nothing wrong. They cast the net wide to try to catch every baby with defects but in that process, a lot of healthy ones get snagged. 1/500 is 0.2%. Every baby has a 2-3% likelihood of delays....so your risk of downs is less than that! Far less. And those measurements are borderline! So I would try not to worry too much, although I know that's a moot thing to tell a pregnant woman. Hang in there!

My anatomy scan possibly showed a risk of 1/500 that my little guy has downs syndrome. The scan wasn't conclusive, and I have to go in for another one early next week, so what I'm wondering is,

Has anyone else been told there is a risk, and then gone in for more testing and been given the all clear?

I feel it in my bones that he is 100% healthy, but until I know for sure my mind is going to be running a mile a minute. Any advice is wanted.
