She's had breast reconstruction and I think on her wedding day with her many kids, she didn't want to be thinking about her dress staying up in a strapless or being too exposed. I think a super plain dress with a ball gown was the only way to get all her kids drawings on the dress, if that was the main feature she wanted to highlight. And it seems like the kind of princess dress her daughters would have thought was pretty at their age.
