@TemperanceBrennan: I had read that same blog entry!

I use plain latex paint, the cheaper the better! I do sand before I use it and I seal it off with a water based poly, applied with a rag.

I'm not a fan. I don't really like the texture of it bare and I don't like the waxing step. I prefer to just sand and prime.

Here's a blog post I found that explains some of the disadvantages of chalk paint: http://www.addicted2decorating.com/why-i-dont-use-chalk-paint.html

@MrsTiger: I did! I know the wax is supposed to seal it, but I didn't really love the look of it. The wax also adds "interest" - you can't really get the antique / rustic look without adding the dark wax. I painted a dark wood coffee table and mostly focused on using sanding to provide interest. My sister did lamps with the wax, though, and they look great! I think maybe I'm hitting on what @grizz: was saying? On a table we use, the wax is annoying.

@MrsTiger: I did! It gets really chippy and dirty if you don't use the wax, in my experience.

@grizz: @emg86: @BakerBee: Thanks for the response! Did you guys also use the wax to finish it after painting?

I have it on our kitchen table and i hate it there, but I would like it for a lower traffic area that I don't have to clean as much.

I've painted several things with it before! I like it a lot - but hate the cost associated with it. I don't have any pictures at my work computer, but I'll try to remember to wall you some.

I painted our coffee table with chalk paint over a year ago and it still looks great - despite several spills! I took a class, but it's really not necessary.

I'm getting an oak changing dresser / hutch for baby's room from a friend for free, and I want to paint it. I've read that for chalk paint you don't have to sand or prime, which would be awesome, but I'm wondering if anyone has any first hand experience. Thanks!
