At this point, I have no desire to make a facebook announcement. If it comes out on there, it will be in a picture I happen to post that shows a very pregnant belly, but not even on purpose. However, who knows if my feelings about this will change when we finally do get pregnant.

I never announced either of my pregnancies. I didn't feel like sharing my struggles. Only a handful of people knew we were going thru treatments and they already knew we were pregnant. So, no point for me.

We have a personal blog where I document our life. We did a private blog for pregnancy updates, and once we were ready to announce on social media, I had written a lengthy post about our struggles with getting pregnant, miscarriage, and that I was finding joy in my journey, and wanting to honor my struggle and other's struggles by being mindful and present during my pregnancy.

I had so many of my girlfriends reach out to tell me about their fertility struggles, and to thank me for acknowledging IF, and miscarriage. I felt guilty (at first) for announcing, but once these conversations started, I realized all of us were there for one another.

Next time, I'll likely not put bump photos on FB. I'll remind people about our blog, and they can follow that way.

If we do happen to conceive (rather than adopt) after our IVF process, I do not think I will announce on facebook. I will however, probably post an in depth announcement (entailing the infertility journey) on my blog and perhaps I would post a link to my blog on facebook. Only my closest friends and family read my blog anyway. But of course, this would be after I've told my friends and family in person or on the phone for my long-distance family. I haven't been open with everyone about our journey, but I do wish to be a support system for my friends should they find themselves on a similar path. So I think a tasteful, detailed, and hopefully humble blog post would be a good way for me to make my public announcement.

We did post our announcement on FB around 23 weeks. We lost our first daughter at 20 weeks. We waited until we were past that and had a good scan. We said something along the lines that we were blessed, overjoyed, excited, and some other stuff.

We have so many family members that live out of town and so many people knew our story thayany had been 'watching' for something like this.

Oh, going off others about posting tons a pictures. I will create a private (not secret) FB group where I will post baby bumps. Anyone who wants to see them can be added to the group. That way, I don't bombard people with baby bumps pictures. I want to take newborn pictures and take monthly baby bump photos just like all of my friends. I hope this allows me to do that and be sensitive to my friends with IF.

I say private but not secret because I will tell people of this group and I will tell my IF friends, too. I know how hard it is to find out that a friend purposely hid something from you because I have IF. I would rather them tell me then hide it from me.

So I finally (?) announced on FB last night at 17 weeks and hinted at the long wait. The outpouring of love and support is overwhelming. We told close people personally - either in person, phone, etc. I will post again later today thanking everyone for the well wishes and with a note of support of those still on their journey, to not give up hope and know they have a friend to always talk to if and when times get tough. I don't want my announcement to hurt others and I get it so maybe that will help?

A friend of mine is expecting after ten years trying/treatments. She finally conceived via IVF last year. Not only did she announce on FB (she mentions IVF), she's going the whole hog - bump pictures, daily "pregnant lady" statuses, scan pictures.....! It makes me happy to see every single one because I'm so excited for her but I know someone for whom IVF didn't work and I do hope there is nobody dealing with that in her friends list.

Interesting question! I've been thinking about this (if I'm able to be pregnant in the future) and I don't think I will. It's really hard to see those pregnancy announcements. I don't know if someone else on my friends list might be going through an IF and I don't want to contribute to their sadness.

I shared with my first pregnancy because I felt like it was our turn and I wanted to have that moment but since then I have had a miscarriage and been upset by many Facebook announcements, so we won't announce this time until baby is born. I love a cute announcement as much as the next person...and a lot of my friends are scattered geographically and why wouldn't I want them to hear my good news?

I agree with everything @Mrs.Pinecone316 said!

It was hard for me seeing sooo many pictures while I was still struggling, but when I got a sticky baby I was excited and wanted to share. I told family and friends before I announced on facebook around 16w. I didn't share the struggle because DH was uncomfortable with it. Plus, we had family that were already posting comments on facebook about the baby before we even announced, so it is kinda like a clearing the air in a way. I have not posted any photos though because that can be a bit much.

@Mrs.Pinecone316: I agree!

I think even though they've been hard to see, I've realized just how freaking exciting it is to some of the people who've announced. I know some haven't had an easy go TTC...and I wouldn't want them to think that they can't share!

If it did get to the point where I wanted to "overshare"...I think I'd do what I've seen others do and create a separate private group for that. I love that I have the option of whether or not I want to see every single photo some of my friends post...or if I'd rather just check out their family "group" when I feel like it.

I know how difficult the FB announcements cab be when going through infertility. But I didn't see that as a reason for me to not share my exciting news that I so longed to do for so so long. Everyone close in my life new before I announced on FB of coarse. I HAVE avoided constant pregnancy posts, and baby bump photo's mostly because I think anything in excess on social media if obnoxious, but also because I did end up hiding a lot of friends who did this when I was dealing with infertility and it was just too much to see on the daily.

I think it's one thing to "announce" a pregnancy on social media, and sure that stings a bit, but I usually get over it pretty quickly.

The people I've had to hide have been the ones that post daily/weekly updates/photos and post about nothing other than being pregnant.

When I was KU, we MCed before we got to a place where I was comfortable posting on FB. I doubt I would ever want to say anything before 12 weeks (though DH can't keep a secret, so I could see it spilling before then).

I think I would be more hurt by someone who worked to hide that they were pregnant than I would be to see a single announcement that they are. But before announcing, I'd tell people I was close with directly. So hopefully anyone who I knew was struggling with IF would know in advance of a massive announcement.

After going through my IF struggles, I decided not to announce at all on social media. I told people through email, phone calls and in-person only. It's crazy that even though I'm pregnant now, I see those pregnancy announcement posts and it still stings! I think it's because all of these announcements (among my friends at least) make pregnancy seem so effortless.

It's so ingrained in me that even when I tell people about the pregnancy, I try to work in the phrase, "We've waited a long time for him" in case anyone in the conversation is also TTC.

When I posted our announcement (after 12 week NT scan.results) I had already let anyone who was still trying, or had asked, know. That said, in that social media announcement, I shared our struggles & joy at the same time.

We didn't announce the other pregnancies, since we never got to that point... but I also announced the miscarriage, since we were just a few days away from that point.

This is what I said, back then:

After two years of trying for a baby...
After forking out a ridiculous amount of money on doctor visits...
After cycle tracking and stacks of medications...
After disappointment time and time again...
And after two fresh rounds of IVF...

... we're cautiously excited to share our news with all of you! We're not out of the woods yet & have a few issues to contend with, but we are ridiculously happy people right now!

When I was dealing with IF both of my friends who ended up pregnant talked to me personally before publicly announcing. I didn't know others in my spot when we finally got pregnant so I announced on FB and didn't mention the struggle to get there because much of my family didn't know and I didn't want them to. I have loved when people have mentioned in their announcements their struggle (there have been two lately). But I don't think IF'ers should abstain from announcing publicly - I think it's time to celebrate and while it's hard to see while going through IF it's important to feel good about finally making it to the end and get to do what every mom who gets knocked up easily gets to do.

I won't announce on social media. Don't see a reason. Everyone important to me will be told or hear through word of mouth. Don't feel the need for all my facebook "friends" to know about my pregnancy. A small portion of this stems from sensitivity to those going through a tough season of life, and I don't see a reason to make someone's (if they wouldn't have known of my pregnancy in a pre social media era) journey more difficult. I think an announcement that references IF could be extremely encouraging to those still struggling though if you were comfortable opening up!

I announced to my limited group of friends on social media and included a reference to what we'd been through. I'd already been pretty public about IF and treatments and m/c, and had supported some of them through pregnancy after similar situations or raising LOs after IF. It's a special moment that I wish for everyone going through IF.

I've been wondering about this. If my FET is successful, how would I announce it? I do want to announce because I have been waiting 3 years to have my own cute FB announcement. I do also feel for other IFers who don't like baby announcements. I'm thinking of announcing but also including a part where I take the time to think of others who are still in the IF journey. Somehow give them hope but hopefully not in a way that pains them. Not sure what I would want to hear. (Though, I think knowing that they are thinking of us would help ease my pain.) Also, I'm open about my IF & IVF journey on FB. I post about every 3 months (about IF) and get a lot of support from my friends and family. I think talking about IF brings the issue into light and may get people to open up about their own journey. I've gotten people to private message me to talk about their journey and it's great hearing from my friends.

Also, as someone who is not pregnant and to all of my pregnant friends, I don't want them to hide their pregnancy from me. Being pregnant as we all know is a miracle and if you want to be excited, you should be able to express your feelings. I've also said that I might not be over the moon when you announce but when that roller coaster of emotions comes through and I'm feeling better, I will be happy for you.

Though, the one thing that will probably always annoy me is if people mention how unplanned their pregnancy was or that they are grateful that it only took a few months to get pregnant. In that case, you'll get a big eye roll from me. And maybe if you keep saying it, I might hide you from my feed.

Other than that, I don't see anything wrong with baby announcements. At some point in time, I'll oooh and Ahhh over your announcement or baby.

I had a 4 year struggle with infertility before having our first child.

I did announce each of my pregnancies. Although it sometimes was a little hard when I saw a facebook announcement during my struggle, I was nothing but very happy for the new parents to be and that played into my decision to announce.

What I was very aware of was trying not to complain about pregnancy symptoms, gaining weight, etc. I remember one particular fb friend always complained about "getting fat" and "looking like a cow", it was very infuriating to me.

No. I was far too superstitious and anxious to make any reference to my pregnancy on social media. Empathy for others going through IF played a role in that decision as well.

I've blogged and been 100% open about our journey, so I'll announce on my blog and FB too. But I've already told my cousin who I know is going through IF (we talk about her IF stuff and our issues a lot). And I'm only friends on FB with close family and a handful of close friends.

That being said, as painful as pregnancy announcements over the last couple of years have been for me, I wouldn't not announce because of it. I didn't resent that they did, I just hid them and checked their walls when I felt up for it. They understood, and I would expect anyone I'm friends with who was upset to do the same. I didn't want them to feel the need to curb their excitement for me.
