I am not quite 9 weeks but just told my boss yesterday, as I have terrible morning (all-day) sickness and had to be up-front with him about what is going on. He was thrilled and very supportive, and I know telling him was the right thing.

I work at a large company but in a very small department (4 people including my boss, plus our EA) and after I told my boss I just walked into the others' offices and told them one-on-one. My EA I told earlier this week as she and I are close and she could tell something was wrong (I look like death!). I know it is way earlier than most people tell work but in my small department I felt like I just couldn't hide my awful morning sickness, and I am so relieved to have told them. That said, they all know it's in confidence for now, and I don't think I will tell anyone else at the company until 12/13 weeks.

With DD - I was in a strategy meeting with 3 of my 4 supervisors and when they started talking about me leading a project that would start right when I was due, I had them call in the 4th boss and told them. I announced to the rest of the office in a staff meeting a couple weeks later.

With DS - I sent my bosses and close coworkers a link to the video we made for family and friends of DD "announcing" it.

@T.H.O.U.: That's kind of what I'm thinking about doing...but I don't want to come off as insensitive either. It's just a kind of an uncomfortable situation.

I told a few people I was close with first, more as a precaution in case something were to happen they would know I was pregnant. Then, I told my boss pretty quickly and then sort of let it spread when I announced on FB. We told people really quickly.

Okay, so here's an additional question to the original post. I have a coworker who lost her baby boy at 20 weeks about 7 months ago. She and I are not close at all, yet I feel like I should tell her privately before announcing to the office. I'm so nervous about this though...how do you tell someone you aren't close to, and without hurting her feelings at the same time?

My plan was to tell just a couple of people and let it slowly leak out, but we have a tight knit group and so the people who knew hounded me to announce, so I sent out a staff email that said I had a parasite that was expected to last about 9 months  very classy I know.

I announced at a department meeting as well. We too have a very small, close department. My supervisor is actually one of my closest friends, so she knew already, but we always start by going around with a "check in." One of my coworkers was stuck doing something else and was late to the meeting, so I had to wait and do it toward the end when I "remembered" I had a check in. Then we called in the support staff to tell them too. It was fun. News travels very fast though! By the end of the day I had all sorts of people from all different departments congratulating me. :)

I have been wondering if I should bother to announce at all! I work remotely and have only met my co-workers a handful of times, and probably will be showing the next time I'm in the office. My manager knows though.

I got found out before I meant to. I was having awful morning sickness and was wearing sea-bands to help with it. One of my co-workers just looked at me and asked, "Wonderstruck, why are you on a boat?" I played dumb and she pointed at the bands and said, "My family wears them when we go on cruises for sea-sickness. The only time I've ever seen someone wearing them for another reason was my sister when she was..." And then she trailed off and just looked at me suspiciously. I have a terrible poker face, so it was obvious what she was going to say and that she was right...and she told everyone. Haha! I was okay with it though. It was kind of funny actually, my other co-workers kept coming up to me like, "Sooooo...I heard something about you."

And yes, @Mrs. Confetti: has a good point, tell the boss first!

I just told my boss during a regularly scheduled catch up meeting, when I was 14 weeks and after we'd gotten the results of the NT scan. After that, I told my closest coworkers when I had a chance (walking to the train with one, in a meeting with another...); Then, I told less close coworkers in team meetings, but word was starting to spread at that point.

In your smaller office it sounds like once you tell someone, everyone will know?
