i would switch as well. if you're not comfortable/can't trust him now, then you definitely won't as it gets closer to your due date!

it's up to you, but it sounds like you're frustrated and unhappy with him (not to mention concerned about his professional abilities), and it's not too late to switch. i found a new doctor at 24 weeks--it was because i moved, but as long as an OB is accepting new patients, why not?

He sounds like a joke. Switch! You will be much happier and in better hands with another one or a midwife. Midwives are excellent imo. My OB sucked. Everyone recommended him as well. I don't understand why. I won't be going back to him though, so it's all good.

Where I live, you don't even start seeing an OB until 28 weeks (you see your family physician before that), so I would say it's not too late to switch. I think it's really important to have a doctor with whom you feel comfortable and there seem to be some serious red flags. If I were you I'd at least look into the possibility of switching.

I would definitely try and switch. You need to be able to trust whoever is caring for you - pregnancy is stressful enough as it is, you don't need your OB adding to that.

I don't think it is too late to switch, if you are uncomfortable with the care he is providing you (or feel he isn't giving you the most accurate information) then switch. People often have to switch later than you are because they move, etc so don't worry about how far along you are.

If it helps, I love my OB but he never went over my U/S results unless I asked.

To me, not telling the truth or being wrong about the drugs that he is recommending to a pregnant woman is a huge deal!

26 weeks isn't all that late to change - I know a few people who switched at 30 weeks or later. If you feel uncomfortable with him - and I would be feeling that way too - you should switch.

IMHO it's time to switch. I don't love the 'laid back everything is alright' attitude. I don't want a rabble rouser or scare monger, but I agree too many things are being sloughed off or not properly explained.

I'd find another doctor. 26 weeks is kind of late, but at the same time, if you switch offices, you'll be much happier in the long run. I'm sure doctors get new patients once in awhile, no big deal!

I agree with the others! There's just too many things going on at this practice and it's going to make your pregnancy more stressful, which is totally unnecessary! If you can, you should definitely switch!

Agreed. I'd try to switch, or maybe see if there's someone else in the practice you could see instead? It seems late to switch, but it also seems awful to stay in a situation like that. Look around for someone new!

Switch OB's or get a midwife.

If there are so many things about him that make you uncomfortable, its not worth it to continue putting up with this. You need to be with someone that makes you feel comfortable, supported, and listened-to.

None of these things are particularly serious, but there are so many of them! I just don't think it's worth it to put up with a caregiver you don't really click with.

It's never too late to switch. I've had clients switch from OB's to midwives at full term!

So I'm not a huge fan of my OB, but I feel like it's too late (almost 26 weeks) to switch. I just started seeing him at 18 or 20 weeks because we moved.

I have had really terrible heartburn for the last month and he put me on pepcid last time. This time he told me to try prilosec. I asked if it was a class C drug and he said "yes, but so is pepcid. It just means there is no evidence of harm in animals but there hasn't been any human studies."

Wrong and wrong. Pepcid is class B, and class C (which prilosec is) means there is evidence of fetal harm in animal studies.

Also, he calls me "girl" and the office has screwed up my appointment two out of the three times I've gone in, and cancelled on me another.

And I asked him about a specific condition I have (vulvodynia) and if in his experience, he'd recommend an epidural since there is no literature on vulvodynia and childbirth. He was like "well I'd get an epidural at 26 weeks, but that's because I'm a man." Although he did go on to say that there wasn't any research on the subject but he'd look into it....

And we had a gotten a call that there was a cyst on the baby's brain during the ultrasound, so I brought that up with him. He was very much just like "oh yeah nothing to worry about they shouldn't have even told you" (same with my low lying placenta). Which I know there is no reason to worry, but it seemed odd not to discuss my ultrasound results!!!

Ugh. I had thought about getting a midwife instead when we moved, but EVERYONE recommended this guy to me. Boo. I just want to vent.
